    • 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
      • Written procedures were not available for accidental skin cuts and punctures.Written procedures were reviewed with the operator.
    • 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
      • Personal services workers lacked an understanding of the disinfectants that were used for cleaning environmental surfaces and were not following manufacturer's instructions while disinfecting the surfaces.Following manufacturer's instructions properly while using the disinfectant including contact time were discussed with the personal services workers.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • The pedicure tub was not disinfected properly. The operator indicated that they only clean the tub with a cleaner but do not disinfect the tub since they use tub liners.The operator was informed that this practice was in contravention of the Personal services standards. Even if the liners are being used to cover the pedicure tub, the operator needs to clean and then disinfect the tub after each use. The operator was instructed to use pre-empt RTU (an intermediate-level disinfectant) available in the facility to disinfect pedicure tubs following contact time instructed by the manufacturer.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • - High-level disinfection records were not appropriate. Ensure records are kept of test dates, whether the solution passed/failed when the disinfectant is changed and the worker’s initials who performed the activity.-High-level disinfectant log was not appropriate.An appropriate high-level disinfectant log was provided to the operator.-Test strips were available on site. The operator indicated that the concentration of HLD is tested every 10th day. The proper procedure to maintain the log every day for the tests performed to check the concentration of the high-level disinfected was reviewed with the operator.
    • 31. Are sinks accessible and used appropriately for the personal services provided?
      • The same sink was in use for handwashing and for reprocessing semi-critical equipment.The operator was instructed to use another sink (available in the facility) for reprocessing semi-critical equipment only. The operator could use the sink outside the washroom for handwashing only.
