      • The Personal Services Notification (PSN) Form had not been submitted to Alberta Health Services (AHS) to reflect a change in services offered. Evidence was observed that waxing services were being provided to the public.

      • Written procedures were not available for review. Resources were sent out following the inspection.
    • 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
      • Operator demonstrated a lack of knowledge for not following manufacturer instructions, record keeping, written procedures.

      • The treatment bed in the waxing room was observed to be torn and dirty. Damaged and unclean surfaces cannot be adequately cleaned and disinfected and may harbor microorganisms, increasing the risk of disease transmission between clients.Corrective Action: Operator was advised to clean the treatment bed and repair or replace the torn surface to ensure it is smooth, non-absorbent, and easily cleanable.

      • The operator stated that they are currently not offering waxing services. Two wax pots were observed to be turned on in waxing room.

      • The operator was using La Palm 70% Alcohol to disinfect pedicure foot bath components. The product did not have a DIN and could not be verified as an approved low-level disinfectant for use in a personal service setting. Failure to use an appropriate disinfectant may result in inadequate disinfection of equipment and increase the risk of disease transmission between clients.Corrective Action: Operator was advised to discontinue use of the product and obtain an approved low-level disinfectant with a valid DIN or a documented low-level disinfectant claim, and to follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and disinfection of the foot bath and its components.

      • Expired hydrogen peroxide test strips (Exp. 04/30/2024) were observed in the facility. The operator was advised that expired test strips may not provide accurate results, which may affect the ability to verify the effectiveness of the disinfectant solution.Corrective Action: Operator was advised to obtain valid hydrogen peroxide test strips.
