    • 10. Is cleansing and antisepsis of skin and mucous membrane performed in accordance to written procedures and are suitable products being used?
      • Staff verbally advised they were using water as a skin cleanser prior to waxing service. Re-iterated the requirement to follow written procedures for skin cleansing for waxing services which indicated that soap/water was used as a skin cleanser.
    • 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
      • Used nail files & used nail buffers were at the manicure stations and discarded at the time of inspection upon request. Re-iterated the requirement to discard single-use items after each client use. The following tools are considered to be single-use: foam/cardboard nail files, emery files, buffing blocks, toe separators, cardboard covers for nail drill bits etc.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • Staff verbally advised that semi-critical tools were being soaked in the high-level disinfectant less time than what was required as per labelling requirements. Re-iterated proper disinfection requirements.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • 1. Decanted cosmetic products at the pedicure stations were labelled at the time of inspection as per request.2. Tints not suitable for eyelash and/or eyebrow tinting were discarded at the time of inspection.3. Spoons/sticks were being left in cosmetic products which may contaminate the bulk supply. Discard spoons/sticks after each use. Spoons/sticks were discarded at the time of inspection.

    • 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
      • Used sanding bands were found at manicure tables beside used metal drill bits.
    • 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
      • Metal drill bits at manicure tables were used and had visible nail dust.Please ensure all reusable equipment, including tweezers, nail clippers, drill bits, etc., are taken to the reprocessing to be cleaned and disinfected after every client service.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • HLD disinfectant (Preempt CS20) was not being changed at a minimum of every 14 days. According to the log sheet, it was changed 20 days ago.HLD disinfectant did not meet minimum effective concentration.Test strips were being used to test the efficacy of the disinfectant, however the colour change was not occurring within 35 seconds as required by the manufacturer. Testing conducted during the inspection using both the operator and inspector's test strips revealed the colour change occurred after 2 minutes had elapsed and the colour was faint in comparison to the reference printed on the bottle.Corrective action taken:- Disinfectant solution was changed and minimum concentration was tested and verified to meet the manufacturer's requirements.

    • 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
      • The sink in the waxing room was provided with single-use towels during the inspection.
    • 15. Is reusable equipment handled and stored properly (Critical)?
      • The container used to hold waxing and/or tinting-was cleaned at the time of inspection. Ensure equipment is protected from contamination during storage.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • Additional labeling of cosmetic products throughout the facility was completed at the time of inspection.

    • 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
      • Written procedures were completed during the inspection.Reprocessing sink will also be used for hand hygiene - written procedures for sink decontamination were completed.
    • 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
      • The sink in the waxing room requires soap and single-use towels.
    • 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
      • Numerous nail files, nail buffers etc. observed at the manicure tables were in a used condition. These items are single-use and must be discarded after each use. Items were discarded during the inspection.
    • 15. Is reusable equipment handled and stored properly (Critical)?
      • The container used to hold waxing and/or tinting-related items was dirty. Clean the container. Ensure equipment is protected from contamination during storage.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • 1. A high-level disinfectant (i.e. PreEmpt CS20, PreEmpt HLD5) and proper indicator test strips are required. Most high level disinfectants have a 14-30 day reuse period. High level disinfectant logs must be kept - templates were provided.2. The disinfectant container for the large "cheese-grater style" foot files is too small. Obtain a larger disinfectant tray (i.e. plastic/glass with a lid). This piece of equipment needs to be fully soaked in a high-level disinfectant. 3. The intermediate-level disinfectant (ILD) (i.e. PreEmpt RTU) used to disinfect the pedicure foot basin and/or tweezers was expired. Purchase a new ILD.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • Label all cosmetic products throughout the facility where required (i.e. cosmetics in jars at pedicure stations etc.).
