Inspection summary

Royal Canadian Legion #97 has been inspected 10 times by Interior Health Authority since March 25, 2013. The most recent inspection, on January 14, 2026, found no infractions.

5 of 10 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 0 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing and Food temperature control.

The last 2 inspections in a row found no infractions. The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on September 13, 2016. For example: 8 - Are equipment, food contact surfaces and utensils washed, sanitized and stored in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded once on November 8, 2019. For example: 2 Are proper temperature controls maintained to ensure safe storage and display of foods?

  • Food safety training and certificationLower risk

Most jurisdictions require a certified food handler or manager on site, and some require allergen or food-worker training. These findings mean the paperwork or the trained person was missing at the time. They do not by themselves mean food was handled unsafely.

Recorded once on September 13, 2016. For example: 16 - Does the operator and appropriate employees hold a valid FOODSAFE certificate?

  • Building, plumbing and upkeepLower risk

Floors, walls and ceilings must be smooth and clean, with working lighting, ventilation, plumbing, hot and cold water, and washrooms. These are rarely an immediate food-safety risk on their own, but persistent problems can lead to pest or sanitation issues.

Recorded once on March 25, 2013. For example: 1 - Is the premises construction and layout unchanged?

  • Other findingsLower risk

Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on November 29, 2023. For example: 1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?

Great staff, good food and cheap prices. The members are decent for the most part and very welcome. Some patrons however are arrogant and ignorant. My wife is disabled and they accused her of being a fraud and stealing from the government. Went once for the meat draws and pool. Haven’t been back since. My family has been a member of the since my grandfather came back from war. My wife and I both served but hey. Ignorance can only be fixed with understanding and education. Might go back one day. Probably at a different legion. The worst part was it happened the day I paid my dues. No real interest in returning. Supposed to be an inclusive space to celebrate life and the freedoms we all fought for.
