    • 06. Are appropriate food handling practices and plans in place to ensure that food is handled in a manner that makes it safe to eat?
      • Fridge temperature logs are not being maintained. Check fridge temperatures and record them.
    • 08. Do food handlers ensure that food is protected from contamination (unless noted elsewhere)(Non-Critical)?
      • Still a couple flies. Flies had been landing on cones on counter last inspection. Provide cover for the cones.
    • 16. Is the facility free of unapproved animals, vermin and/or insects (unless noted elsewhere), and maintained to prevent the entry or harbourage of pests?
      • There were a still a couple of houseflies in the premises. Ensure doors to the outside are kept shut. Install screen doors if needed for ventilation.Fly strips may also be helpful but if used, please ensure not in any food area.
    • 19. Does the facility have a valid permit and does the facility operate in compliance with the conditions of that permit, or is the facility awaiting approval prior to operation?
      • Food permit on display is expired. Put up current food handling permit.
    • 20. Do food handlers at the facility have adequate food safety training?
      • No certificate was provided showing at least one senior staff member has taken an approved Food Sanitation Course. Provide certificate or have senior staff member/manager take the course.
    • 21. Is the facility properly constructed and maintained in a state of good repair to allow for the safe and sanitary handling of food?
      • The drains for the dipper wells are not directly connected to sewer pipe. This does not appear to be in compliance with the plumbing code. Dipper well waste piping to comply with plumbing code.Due to water from the dipper wells waste piping splashing onto the floor outside the funnel, the floor is damp and spongy. Water damaged flooring to be replaced. The back storage room where freezers and other food products are stored is carpeted. Carpet to be removed. Floor to be smooth, easily cleanable and impervious to moisture.Please ensure this is all completed prior to opening next year.

      • Overall cleanliness is very good, just a couple of areas where there is some food debris (floor around soft ice cream machine, in corner of back storage area where tv stand box is). Please clean these areas more often.

    • 05. Do food handlers refrain from handling food while ill and have acceptable attire and hygiene?
      • Foodhandler was not always washing hands between handling cellphone or cash and scooping ice cream. Hands are to be washed in between handling cellphone/cash and food handling. Ensure use the handwashing sink, soap and shut off the taps with paper towels afterwards to avoid re-contaminating hands.
    • 06. Are appropriate food handling practices and plans in place to ensure that food is handled in a manner that makes it safe to eat?
      • Fridge temperature logs are not being maintained. Check fridge temperatures and record them.
    • 07. Do food handlers ensure that food is protected from contamination (unless noted elsewhere)(Critical)?
      • Flies were landing on cones sitting on the counter. Cones discarded during inspection but need to keep covered or store in another manner to protect them from flies.
    • 09. Are chemicals stored and handled in a safe manner?
      • Spray bottles of chemical (sanitizer) were not labelled as to their contents. Corrected during inspection.

      • Some debris (nuts, sprinkles) on the floor in the back area around the prep table. Please clean this area and ensure it is kept clean.
  4. Monitoring Inspection

    • 04. Does the operator use approved methods for cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, and surfaces?
      • Facility was almost out of their QUAT surface sanitizer at the time of inspection. It had been ordered and should arrive soon. When the remaining bottle was tested the concentration was under 100ppm. - Ensure there is adequate sanitizer for food contact surfaces available at all times.
    • 05. Do food handlers refrain from handling food while ill and have acceptable attire and hygiene?
      • Food handlers were observed not washing thier hands properly after handling payments before returning to food handling. - Ensure staff are turning off the taps with paper towels as to not contaminate the taps after washing their hands.
    • 12. Are there adequate and properly operating dish washing facilities to effectively clean and sanitize equipment and utensils (unless noted elsewhere)(Non-Critical)?
      • No thermometer equipped with a max/min function was available onsite to test the temperature of the high-temperature dishwasher. - Acquire an appropriate thermometer and ensure the dishwasher is capable of reaching 71C at the plate level for adequate sanitization.
    • 16. Is the facility free of unapproved animals, vermin and/or insects (unless noted elsewhere), and maintained to prevent the entry or harbourage of pests?
      • Many flies and fruit flies were observed in the front counter area and back kitchen area. - Consult with pest control operator to reduce the number of flies.
    • 19. Does the facility have a valid permit and does the facility operate in compliance with the conditions of that permit, or is the facility awaiting approval prior to operation?
      • Food handling permit that was on display expired in 2017. - Ensure updated food permit is on display in a conspicuous place.
    • 23. Is the facility maintained in a clean and sanitary condition?
      • There was a slight accumulation of debris in hard to reach areas. Stand up cooler also requires cleaning in the interior as well as chocolate warmer. Please clean the noted areas regularly.
