    • 18. Is the facility and equipment being maintained in a suitable manner (Non-Critical)?
      • ***cleaning cloths were discussed and were to be stored dry and clean or in a sanitizer solution or put in for laundry once used. Several staff were educated not to keep used cloths draped over the spray bottles or in a cleaning solution (must be in a sanitizer solution if it will be reused).
    • 20. Are indoor play areas and equipment sufficient and being properly maintained to ensure client safety (Non-Critical)?
      • ***There were improper procedures for the water play table in one room. The staff had not emptied it from the day before (it was not open at this time for the children) but had been allowed to sit contaminated overnight. Discussed with staff and manager that the water play tables were to be emptied after use to reduce the bacterial build up in the water. The regular procedure was that the tables were usually not used all day but only for limited times and were emptied after use (no more than 2 hours at a time).

      • ***the were a few toys that were worn/in disrepair (boat toy with a pinching hazard and damaged thin plastic blocks) All were removed during the inspection.

    • 04. Are clients at this facility being protected from hazards (Non-Critical)?
      • ***There were some wooden topped baby gates that were in disrepair with paint chipping (6A/B and (4A/B).
    • 09. Are properly operating hand washing sink(s) available in suitable location(s), and properly stocked with handwashing supplies?
      • ***The soap dispenser was stored in the cupboard instead of being available for the children to wash their hands in the hallway washroom. Corrected during the inspection and the soap dispenser was put by the sinks.

      • ***One stand alone sink was not working in room 2. Staff turned it on and it worked, it was being kept off due to a leak in the hose (on order). Ensure adequate hand washing is available.

      • There were first aid kits present in each of the rooms.***There was sterile packaging that was no longer effective in protecting the pads.***There were first aid kits that were not being maintained with all the contents present.***There were missing first aid kit lists so that staff could be checking and ensuring that the first aid kits were complete.

      • ***There were a few toys that were worn/in disrepair (foam blocks, worn painted pressboard toys, enclosed magnetic building blocks). All damaged toys noted were removed and discarded during the inspection. Discussed with operator that the staff should be checking the toys for damage when cleaning or sanitizing them. The enclosed magnets (in the building blocks were acceptable if the plastic encasing them was in good repair. Staff in room 5 started checking and removing damaged magnetic blocks during the inspection.

      • ***There were toys with exposed magnets present in the sensory bin with the beans. Discussed that the glue for the exposed magnets could dry out and the exposed magnet letter/numbers were not acceptable.
    • 20. Are indoor play areas and equipment sufficient and being properly maintained to ensure client safety (Non-Critical)?
      • ***When the fall distance is over 18 inches, an effective protective fall surfacing is needed. Researched and acceptable fall protection surfacing information will be provided with this report.
    • 22. Is the plumbing system adequate and being properly maintained (Non-Critical)?
      • ***The water temperature of various hand sinks including room 5 and the hallway washroom sinks were not being maintained at an acceptable temperature. Ensure that hand sinks have warm water between 38C and 43C for children to wash their hands.

      • ***One stand alone sink was not working in room 6A. Staff plugged it in and the unit worked.
    • 17. Is the facility and equipment being maintained in a suitable manner (Critical)?
      • ***There was a concern with the use of cleaning cloths in some of the rooms. Cleaning cloths were being left wet and used on the counters and not stored in a sanitizer solution between uses. Discussed options. Removing the reusable cloths and using paper towels, use the reusable cloths like paper towels and put in for laundering after each use (not at the end of each day) or storing in an effective sanitizer solution between uses.
    • 17. Is the facility and equipment being maintained in a suitable manner (Critical)?
      • ***The Oxivir sanitizer present in the older children's rooms appeared not to be used up before becoming ineffective. Discussed that the spray bottles should be checked often and changed when needed or emptied at the end of the day and therefore must be refilled with fresh solution.
    • 32. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this child care facility (Non-Critical)?
      • ***There was a container of Oxivir present in the gym area that had not been properly diluted. The concentration was greater than the 5000ppm measured with the test strips. Ensure manufacturer's dilution instruction are followed.

      • ***There was one spray bottle labeled DynaQuat for the Gym area. Quat concentration was not the effective 200ppm needed.
    • 22. Is the plumbing system adequate and being properly maintained (Non-Critical)?
      • ***One stand alone sink was in disrepair (another sink was nearby in the same room), the part was on order.
    • 24. Are sleeping supplies and areas sufficient to ensure client safety and comfort (Non-Critical)?
      • ***room for improvement in room 4 (younger children room). The blankets and sheets are to be separated from each other (tucked in).
    • 31. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this child care facility (Critical)?
      • ***concern with the use of cleaning cloths. Cleaning cloths were not stored in a sanitizer solution between uses. Discussed options. Ise like paper towels and put in for laundering before being used again or storing in an effective sanitizer solution between uses. One staff put the cloth in the laundry container.
