Inspection summary
The Retreat Salon Spa has been inspected 2 times by Alberta Health Services (Environmental Public Health) since February 7, 2025. The most recent inspection, on July 15, 2026, recorded 1 infraction.
1 of 2 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 1 infraction recorded. All recorded findings relate to upkeep, equipment or paperwork rather than direct infection-control risks to clients.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their findings differently, so we group them by what they mean for clients. In personal service settings like salons, spas and tattoo studios, higher-risk findings are the ones that could spread infection from one client to the next, through broken skin, blood or instruments that were not properly cleaned and sterilized.
Equipment and utensilsLower risk
Instruments, chairs, tables and footbaths must be made of materials that can be cleaned, kept in good repair and stored so they stay clean. Single-use items such as nail files, buffers, razors and needles must be thrown away after each client.

- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- Non-critical items, including brushes, combs, and scissors, were observed soaking in Barbicide solution. However, the disinfectant appeared excessively dark, and accumulated hair and debris were present at the bottom of the container, indicating that the solution required replacement. The operator was advised to change the Barbicide solution as needed to maintain the appropriate concentration and effectiveness for proper disinfection of implements. During the inspection, the operator prepared a fresh Barbicide solution and achieved compliance.
