    • 03. Are clients at this facility being protected from hazards (Critical)?
      • -Storage shelves in the Elm Room (18 months – 2 years) had sharp corners. Please add corner protectors to these shelves and any other sharp corners in the facility.
    • 04. Are clients at this facility being protected from hazards (Non-Critical)?
      • -There were loose tacs noted on the walls throughout the facility. Please remove and use alternate products to hand items on the wall.
    • 09. Are properly operating hand washing sink(s) available in suitable location(s), and properly stocked with handwashing supplies?
      • -Children in the Spruce Room were observed using toilet paper to dry their hands after washing and in the Birch Room there was only tissue paper. Please ensure that handwashing sinks in these rooms have paper towel in an appropriate dispenser available.
    • 10. Is a properly supplied first aid kit provided and readily available?
      • -First aid supplies in emergency backpacks were not complete and had expired wipes. Please remove expired supplies and ensure kits are re-stocked with fresh supplies. An audit of supplies should be done regularly.
    • 18. Is the facility and equipment being maintained in a suitable manner (Non-Critical)?
      • -The diaper mat for the Elm Room was torn in multiple spots. Please replace.-The mats used for the Poplar Room (Ages 3-6) were not appropriate. They were not designed for diapering and were not smooth making them hard to clean. Please use mats that are purposely made for diapering.
    • 19. Are indoor play areas and equipment sufficient and being properly maintained to ensure client safety (Critical)?
      • -Two climbing walls were installed in the indoor play area without consulting Environmental Public Health. There are several safety concerns associated with climbing walls. As such please provide the following:•Manufacturers information including installation requirements•Confirmation that the contractor who installed the equipment is trained and qualified to install climbing walls and installed the wall in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions•Verify the fall height of protective surfacing
    • 20. Are indoor play areas and equipment sufficient and being properly maintained to ensure client safety (Non-Critical)?
      • -Fabric chairs were observed in the Elm Room washroom and in the Birch Room (12-18months) that were visibly stained. Operator indicated that they were being sprayed with bleach; this is not an appropriate way to clean/sanitize chairs. Only chairs that are easily cleaned and sanitized should be kept in the washroom. Fabric chairs are not recommended in classrooms unless the cover can be removed and laundered. Please remove stained chairs.-Toys and furniture were once again being stored in the basement staff washroom. Please do not use washrooms for storage as this could lead to contamination of the items.
    • 32. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this child care facility (Non-Critical)?
      • -There were several bottles of expired hand sanitizer observed throughout the facility. Please dispose of expired product. Some were disposed of at the time of inspection. Please note that if smaller bottles are filled from a bigger bottles they need to be cleaned and sanitized with each fill and re-labelled with the new expiry date.-There were bottles of expired Purexall throughout the facility . Please dispose of expired sanitzer.

      • -There was a hole in the bottom of the door to the supply room in the basement. Please cover to prevent children’s access.-There was a kitchen set in the Spruce Room with a screw protruding from the sink area. Please remove

    • 02. Are animals being properly managed in this social care facility?
      • -There was bird feces on the fabric surrounding the bird cage in the basement. Please ensure this is cleaned daily to prevent children from accessing the bird feces. Ensure children wash their hands before/after handling birds.
    • 03. Are clients at this facility being protected from hazards (Critical)?
      • The following potential hazards were noted:- Ensure all purses with long straps are removed from dress-up areas as they are a potential strangulation hazard.- Fire extinguisher boxes have shop corners. Please add bumper pads to soften the corners. Tape was previously used but was now peeling on multiple boxes. (noted in Spruce Room and the Upstairs gym)- There was an area rug rolling up at the corners in the Maple Room in the basement. This is a tripping hazard. Please address.- The Elm Room, Willow Room and the Cedar Room in the basement had chemicals stored in the cupboards in their kitchenettes. Please move out of children’s reach or ensure the cupboards are kept secure. (this includes hand soap, cleaners, disinfectants etc.)- There was a hole in the bottom of the door to the supply room in the basement. Please cover to prevent children’s access.- There was a kitchen set in the Spruce Room with a screw protruding from the sink area. Please remove.- There were bingo dabbers in the Willow Room that were not labelled as non-toxic. Please remove.- Tacks and staples are not recommended in child care facilities as they can fall off or be pulled off by children. Please consider using alternatives such as tape, Velcro, sticky tac etc. If staples are going to be used, they should be covered with tape. Please remove tacs and staples on the bulletin board in the Elm Room and address loose staples in the Spruce Room as they are close to the floor.- Flour was being used to make play dough. Raw flour has had many recalls due to contamination with bacteria. Ensure something other than flour is used to make play dough or purchase heat treated flour.
    • 11. Are parent provided foods being properly handled and stored to ensure the safety of clients in this social care facility?
      • -Water bottles throughout the facility should be labelled with the child’s name.
    • 15. Is laundry being properly handled in a suitable manner?
      • -There was a wet cloth on the bleach bottle in the Cedar Room in the basement. Ensure cloths are placed in the dirty laundry immediately after each use.
    • 17. Is the facility and equipment being maintained in a suitable manner (Critical)?
      • -The Poplar Room had a yellow chair with torn covering. Please repair/replace.
    • 18. Is the facility and equipment being maintained in a suitable manner (Non-Critical)?
      • -The Chlorine test strips had expired in April 2024. Please order new ones.
    • 23. Are sleeping supplies and areas sufficient to ensure client safety and comfort (Critical)?
      • -The sleeping mats in the hallway were stacked in garbage bags; open ends facing each other. Please ensure the open ends face the opposite direction to prevent bedding from touching.
    • 28. Are washrooms / bathing facilities properly constructed, maintained and supplied (Critical)?
      • -One of the basement washrooms was being used to store toys and clothes. Washrooms should not be used for storage as it can lead to contamination of items and prevents proper cleaning. Please remove.
    • 31. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this child care facility (Critical)?
      • -Re-useable dishes were being used for children. This facility does not have a food permit and is therefore not approved to wash dishes. Please remove all re-useable dishes. a.Please send a copy of the food policy that is sent to parents regarding snacks and lunches. The policy should include the requirement for parents to send ice packs, use thermoses, send microwave safe containers etc.

      • -The following potential hazards were noted at the time of inspection: *There was a shelf over 4 feet in the Willow Room that was unstable. Please ensure the shelf is secured to the wall or removed from child care areas * The sliding door in the Willow Room was not secured at the bottom, creating a potential finger crush hazard. Please secure and/or block access to the door.
