      • Facility did not have a written procedure for accidental skin cuts or punctures. Written procedures template was emailed to operator during inspection. Ensure written procedures are followed and printed out for all staff.

      • The client handwashing station in front area did not have liquid hand soap in a dispenser. Ensure hand soap is provided at all hand-washing stations.

      • Disposable liners are used for pedicure tubs. Lysol spray is used to clean and disinfect the tub. Discussed using CS20 for disinfecting the pedicure tubs. Discussed using Lysol for countertops and client chairs.

      • Tweezers in the waxing area were observed to be unclean. The operator was made aware and started to reprocess the items properly. Please ensure that reusable items were being cleaned and sanitized with high-level disinfectant in between each client.

      • Hand washing sink was accessible, however, please have hand sanitizer at each work station. Hand sanitizer must have a DIN or NPN and have an alcohol concentration between 60-90%.

      • Facility appeared in a clean manner, however, a disinfectant was not available at nail stations.Nail stations must be cleaned and disinfected after each client. Surfaces must be cleaned to remove nail dust and debris, followed by a disinfection. Ensure surfaces remain wet for at least 1 minute (Clorox product onsite) before drying.

      • Additional cleaning is required. Please ensure all nail stations, nail and pedi carts and waxing cart are cleaned.Ensure any personal items or items that are not being used, are removed from work stations.Discussed with staff that work stations must be cleaned and disinfected after each client. Extra care must be provided when cuts occur and blood is present. Surfaces must be cleaned to remove nail dust and debris, followed by a disinfection. Ensure surfaces remain wet for at least 1 minute (Clorox product onsite) before drying. Please ensure a low-level disinfectant is available at each nail station. Low-level disinfectants must have a DIN and a disinfectant claim on the label. When purchasing new disinfectants, please read the label and ensure the contact time is under 5 minutes.

      • Personal food dishes were stored on a dry rack above the reprocessing sink. Do not store personal items in the reprocessing area. This shelf must be available at all times for reprocessing purposes (i.e. drying shelf for clean tools).

    • 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
      • Tools must be cleaned with soap and water prior to disinfection. Tools must also be inspected for cleaniless prior to disinfection.This was discussed with operator. Ensure all staff are educated on proper reprocessing practices.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • CS20 on site was expired. In addition, staff were observed improperly reprocessing equipment.Operator obtained a new disinfectant during the inspection. Reprocessing was reviewed with operator step by step.Semi-critical tools such as nippers, clippers, foot files, and cuticle pushes require at minimum a high-level disinfection.1. Tools must be scrubbed with soap and water.2. Tools must be rinsed, inspected for cleanliness and dried before they are placed into disinfectant. DO NOT place wet tools into disinfectant.3. Tools must be fully submerged in disinfectant, covering all areas, for the required amount of time indicated by the manufacturer (20 minutes for CS20).4. There must be no air bubbles present in the disinfectant while tools are soaking.5. After contact time (20 minutes), thoroughly rinse tools with fresh water. 6. Thoroughly dry tools and package them/store them in a manner that prevents contamination.Please ensure reprocessing steps are discussed with all staff and are posted at the reprocessing sink.Disinfectant logs are now required under the Personal Services Regulation. You must test disinfectant each morning, using the corresponding test strips. You must record results each day and keep records on site.In addition, non-critical equipment such as drill bits, MUST be cleaned and disinfected with a low-level disinfectant AFTER EACH client. Please follow the steps above. Depending on which low-level disinfectant you choose, contact times will vary. Please choose a product with a contact time of 5 minutes or less.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • Complaint stated that wound was actively bleeding while staff were painting nails. Bulk supply of nail polish and cuticle glue was contaminated with clients blood.Discussed proper wound care with staff as well as infection control and transmission.Written procedures on how to care for accidental cuts and punctures will be provided. Please educate all staff on the procedures. Staff must protect bulk supply containers (glue containers, lotions, oils, polishes, etc.) from contamination at all times.
