- 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
- The facility is required to fill out the written procedures templates listed below and keep them onsite for review and reference as necessary.
- 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
- Electric hair clippers were observed with hair residue leftover from previous client(s). Hair clippers can be difficult to clean. Applying a disinfectant directly to soiled clippers is ineffective. A suitable cleaning practice must be employed. This could include using pressurized air or cleaning wipes to remove hair from the blades. These steps must be taken prior to any application of disinfectant.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- Hair clippers require the use of a low-level disinfectant at a minimum. The product currently being used "Wahl Spray on Disinfectant" does have a Drug Identification Number (DIN) but does not have any instructions for disinfection of equipment. If the label does not provide specific instructions for equipment disinfection, it cannot be assumed that the disinfectant is suitable on equipment. The use of another low-level disinfectant that provides instructions for equipment disinfection (i.e., Clippercide) is required.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- Prepared Barbicide was quite pale in colour. When PHI inquired, Operator stated she had put 4 capfuls into the container with water. The amount contained in 4 capfuls was measured and was found to be approximately 32 mL, when manufacturer's instructions required 62.5 mL/L. The correct amount was determined to be 8 capfuls, and the Operator adjusted the amount in the container.
