      • Single use equipment, that had been used, such as nail files and sand paper Dremel bit covers was being stored in and around re-usable equipment. All used single use equipment was moved to the reprocessing sink to be discarded. Operator requested to ensure all single use equipment be discarded immediately after use.
    • 15. Is reusable equipment handled and stored properly (Critical)?
      • Used single use equipment was being stored in drawers with re-usable equipment. Re-usable equipment that appeared contaminated was stored in drawers of pedicure stations. The single use equipment, and contaminated re-usable equipment was moved to the reprocessing sink.Operator requested that used contaminated equipment be stored separately from clean reprocessed equipment. Better separation and storage required.
    • 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
      • Some of the re-usable equipment such as nail clippers and cuticle nippers are rusted. Ensure all re-usable equipment is inspected prior to cleaning and disinfection and it is removed from use if there are physical defects. Inspector set aside rusted re-usable equipment that was observed. Operator instructed to inspect all other re-usable equipment for physical defects.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • Dremel bits were not being cleaned and disinfected after use. Used Dremel bits, with and without sandpaper were observed in various areas of the facility. Once a Dremel bit is used, it is to be stored in a container with other dirty equipment and then moved to the reprocessing sink.As with all re-usable equipment, Dremel bits are to be cleaned and disinfected.

      • The sharps container did not have a lid. Ensure that sharps containers are puncture resistant and have a secure lid.

      • Single use nail files and nail buffs that are not cleanable were not being discarded after a single use. Equipment labeled single use or is uncleanable must be discarded after use on one client. All used nail files and nail buffs were discarded immediately upon request.

      • The high level disinfectant being used was expired. Test strips for the high level disinfectant was not available. Obtain new high level disinfectant and corresponding test strips. Ensure to maintain a record of high level disinfectant testing.
