Inspection summary

Black Rabbit Coffee House has been inspected 5 times by Interior Health Authority since December 15, 2022. The most recent inspection, on September 24, 2026, recorded 4 infractions.

1 of 5 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 4 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Pests, Handwashing and staff hygiene and Protecting food from contamination.

Recent inspections have recorded more infractions than earlier ones, so it is worth reading the latest reports closely.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • PestsHigher risk

Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on September 24, 2026. For example: 2 Are proper pest control measures in place on the premises?

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded once on September 24, 2026. For example: 7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded once on November 29, 2024. For example: 5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded 8 times across 4 separate inspections, most recently on September 24, 2026. For example: 3 Are written food handling procedures (Food Safety Plan) current and available on site?

  • Food safety training and certificationLower risk

Most jurisdictions require a certified food handler or manager on site, and some require allergen or food-worker training. These findings mean the paperwork or the trained person was missing at the time. They do not by themselves mean food was handled unsafely.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on November 29, 2024. For example: 5 Are the FOODSAFE training requirements being met?

Staff was great! Peach grilled cheese was delicious. Chai latte was tasty, bagel with tzatziki was delightful, the white bean and kale soup was great. They did forget to give my cinnamon sugar croissant as my order was to go and we were leaving town so I couldn’t go back.

Such a cute local cafe tucked away on the corner of Cook Road and Lakeshore! They have a great selection of seasonal drinks. I tried the Peach Cream Matcha, and it was delicious. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The indoor space is small but super cozy, and there’s also a spacious patio. A great local spot just a short walk from the beach!

The best coffee in town, and such a cute little shop. Nice to grab a coffee and stroll around the neighborhood or sit inside the cozy cafe. Beautiful artwork and great tasting coffee. An amazing perk is lots of street parking and very walkable to the beach to enjoy your coffee get a croissant to go with it they are fantastic!

This has to be one of the best coffee shops in all of Kelowna, BC. Whether you're looking for a meticulously crafted latte, a perfectly flaky croissant, or simply a warm and welcoming atmosphere, this place delivers every time. The staff are incredibly friendly, the quality is consistently outstanding, and every visit feels worth both the wait and the money. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

Great coffee show that feels like a familiar place. The coffee has the attention to detail with hearts made in the foam, and the food looks and tastes delicious. The baristas are friendly. I highly recommend it here!

Love the atmosphere of this little café, especially the patio seating. I had an iced vanilla latte, and the coffee itself tasted wonderful. However, the vanilla syrup didn’t seem to be the best quality. They also had a pretty limited selection of baked goods, even at 9:30 a.m.
