Inspection summary
Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott has been inspected 5 times by Interior Health Authority since August 2, 2013. The most recent inspection, on October 29, 2024, found no infractions.
4 of 5 inspections on record found no infractions at all. No inspections are on record from the past 12 months. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Protecting food from contamination and Handwashing and staff hygiene.
The last 2 inspections in a row found no infractions. The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded once on March 26, 2019. For example:
3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk
This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.
Recorded once on March 26, 2019. For example:
5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded once on March 26, 2019. For example:
7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
Other findingsLower risk
Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.
Recorded once on March 26, 2019. For example:
1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?

This hotel is very nice. The price leaves a lot to be desired but the experience and service demand excellence. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is mostly clean, there are some areas for improvement. We stayed 2 days and the ashtrays in the smokers area were never emptied and there was some trash obviously left by another guest that was never cleaned up. The inside was beautiful. The pool and gym were very clean but the shower in the pool area didn't work. The complimentary breakfast was excellent, literally something for everyone. The beds were comfortable, although I would have preferred a firm pillow to a feather pillow. All in all this hotel while on the expensive side was everything you hope a hotel would be.

Upon check-in with my family, we arrived to a dirty room. The carpet had very obviously not been vacuumed. Doritos, almonds, and hair were scattered throughout the corners. I immediately reported to the front desk that I didn’t think our room was quite ready for guests. Instead of being offered to transfer rooms the front desk advised they would come up and vacuum while we went out for dinner. Awkward, but I agreed. We arrived back and it was better but still not great. Hopped in the shower to find the amenities completely empty. Had to call down to the front desk to ask for shampoo. Tried to settle the kids in for a movie and the TV wasn’t working. All of this was brought to the attention of the front desk, and they sincerely apologized, but it never went beyond an apology. All of these were small inconveniences but they did put a damper on our fun family vacation in the hotel. I will probably not stay here again.

Majority of the staff were great, offering good friendly/kind service and accommodating - even allowed us a bit more time. The kitchen area was always stocked and clean!! The Facilities however need attention/maintenance and upgrades are required (bathtub caulking black and wearing away, missing baseboard in bathroom, ripped bed skirt, ripped curtains in hallway and one of the rooms booked by our family). I could see the hotel is doing some work as metal containers were stored outside the building and bed box springs were piled up outside on the patio - this was visible from the eating area which was kind of strange to see old beds while eating breakfast!

Guests Shouldn’t Be the Quality Control Don’t let the photos fool you—looks can be deceiving. We booked two rooms for our stay, and unfortunately the housekeeping and maintenance concerns extended to both. After a 14-hour drive, we were first assigned an unfinished room with missing wallpaper and missing towel fixtures. We were then moved to another room where we found significant dust behind the microwave, behind the TV, along the bed frame, and caked onto the bathroom exhaust vent. The second room we booked also had housekeeping concerns. This wasn’t an isolated oversight—it suggested rooms were being placed into service without proper cleaning or inspection. To make matters worse, the proposed solution was to have housekeeping come and clean our room at 10:00 p.m., after we had already unpacked and settled in for the night. After travelling all day, that is not what I consider a reasonable solution. During our stay, the hallways were not air-conditioned despite the summer heat, and the shower in the pool area was out of service, adding to the impression that maintenance throughout the property was lacking. If you’re expecting professionalism or accountability, don’t expect much. Brooklyn and Ellie were the only staff members who treated us with professionalism and respect. Unfortunately, that was not our experience with the rest of the staff or management. I’ll attach one photo that sums up our stay: the bathroom exhaust vent coated in thick dust. Absolutely disgusting. If that is what is plainly visible, it leaves you wondering what isn’t. Management did not respond to my concerns until after we had checked out, despite repeated attempts to reach them during our stay. When they finally did respond, the focus was on defending the hotel’s actions rather than taking accountability or providing a meaningful resolution. We chose this hotel because we trusted the Marriott name. Based on our experience, this property fell well below the standards that name represents. If you’re travelling to the Fairfield by Marriott Vernon, I sincerely hope your experience is better than ours. Based on our stay, the Marriott name alone was no guarantee of Marriott standards as you can tell by most of the recent reviews.

My hotel room was terrible quite frankly. The one thing Hotel is supposed to do is provide an environment for sleeping. The room I had the air conditioner did not work and when I opened the window, there was another huge air conditioner making noise beside it. After I told the front desk the next morning that I had a terrible sleep, they promised they would get back to me with an adjustment or something. I thought I really cared what I wanted was a good night sleep. There’s a Best Western Plus right beside. It looks new and way better. Stay there.
