Inspection summary
Firefly Eatery has been inspected once by Interior Health Authority, on May 26, 2026. The most recent inspection, on May 26, 2026, recorded 5 infractions.
In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 5 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Food temperature control, Pests and Cleaning and sanitizing.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Food temperature controlHigher risk
Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.
Recorded once on May 26, 2026. For example:
2 Are proper temperature controls maintained to ensure safe storage and display of foods?
PestsHigher risk
Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.
Recorded once on May 26, 2026. For example:
2 Are proper pest control measures in place on the premises?
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded once on May 26, 2026. For example:
3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk
This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.
Recorded once on May 26, 2026. For example:
5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded once on May 26, 2026. For example:
7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?

We’re here on vacation from Alberta for the week, on the last day we were searching for the best pizza in town. On our way to some other place (instantly forgot every other pizza joint in the world after having the first bite) my boyfriend spotted this place just off the old main drag down town Vernon. We pulled over immediately and went inside. The business owner took our order and recommended their deep dish crust. All I can say is WOW. First and most important, the cheese was unreal! It was like pizza out of a movie! The best cheese I have ever eaten! Fully loaded with multiple layers of meat and sooo much cheese, did I mention how good this cheese was! Two pieces and we were stuffed! We did end up finishing it by the end of the night and even tho we were soooo full, all we could think about was more of that pizza!! Absolutely unreal, the best I’ve ever had. As pizza connoisseurs, I wish we could be weekly customers! No pizza will ever be as good as that pizza now.

Just stopped in for a quick bite and this place did not disappoint. We had the most delicious BLT on whole wheat and a meat lovers Stromboli. Service was fantastic and the food came very fast. Prices were fair for the amount of food we received. $26.00 for both portions and a drink. We will definitely eat here again. I only gave 3 stars for the atmosphere because it was just basic inside and nothing fancy, but they are just getting started. What was most important was that it was clean and a place so sit.

This was my 238th eatery in Vernon on my quest to eat at every eatery in Vernon. Thankfully, Top Choice Pizza closed down. They deserved to close down. A new eatery has taken its place. They have an in house menu for sandwiches and soup, and a separate menu for calzones. The Top Choice signage is still there, but I assure you it has become Firefly Eatery. I ordered the Cajun chicken sandwich. There was a 90s alternative rock playlist including Smashing Pumpkins and a bunch of other songs my one older brother would have listened to. The Cajun chicken sandwich had cheese, peppers, onions, bread, and, get this, Cajun chicken. The best part was that they didn't have a tip screen prompting me to tip. So refreshing. That makes me happy. That alone deserves five stars. I paid $13 even after tax and zero tip. There is a bench for waiting and three small tables for dining in. I am curious to see how this place will be in a few months. I wonder if that TV will eventually work. For now, it works as much as DJ Lunchbox does.
