      • Lash applicators and spoolies were being stored business end up. Store items handle up to prevent cross contamination
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • Preempt CS20 high level disinfectant and AHP7 test strips were expired. The solution in the tray was tested at the appropriate strength with the PH's test strips

    • 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
      • There were no written procedures regarding threading, waxing, eye lash extension, manicure and pedicure. Written procedure templates were provided to the facility to complete the above. Written procedures were completed during the inspection.
    • 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
      • Handwashing sinks in the waxing room and eyelash extension room were not supplied with soap and paper towels.During the inspection, the staff stocked these sinks with soap and paper towels. This would allow maintaining good hand hygiene while providing personal services.
    • 09. Is a point of service risk assessment being performed of the condition of the client and of the equipment to be used on the client prior to performing a personal service?
      • There was a rusted nail clipper and scissors in the drawer of nail station.The staff member discarded the rusted tools during inspection.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • The HLD (High-Level Disinfectant) log sheets were being used for recording testing results of the HLD (High-Level Disinfectant product) on a daily basis. But these logs were not completed in an accurate way (there is no information about the reuse period, the date when the disinfectant was changed.Onsite, an AHS (Alberta Health Services) developed log sheet was provided to the staff member. A fresh solution of Preempt CS-20 was poured in the reprocessing toolbox and tested by test strip (AHP 7), which showed 'Pass' result. This was documented in the provided log sheet by the staff member.
    • 31. Are sinks accessible and used appropriately for the personal services provided?
      • The reprocessing sink was also being used as handwashing sink by clients. There was no written procedure present to guide staff on how to decontaminate the sink between handwashing and reprocessing activities. Written procedure template for decontamination of sink was provided to the staff. The staff member on-site indicated that the reprocessing sink would no longer be used for handwashing, and placed a sign to this effect adjacent to the sink. Staff member put signage saying "Not for client use, No handwashing" on the reprocessing sink.
