      • No personal service notification was received by the Regional Health Authority (Alberta Health Services). As of July 1, 2020, operators are required to notify AHS of any existing or new personal services, as well as any additions or changes to services offered within their business. A link to submit the required notification online was provided via email along with the inspection report.Ensure that the notification is completed and submitted, listing all services provided at the facility.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • Daily testing results for High-Level Disinfectant (HLD) were inadequately maintained. The correct procedure for entering daily test results in the logs was reviewed with the owner.Ensure that daily HLD test results are adequately entered and maintained in logs.
    • 27. Is the facility maintained in a visibly clean state and are environmental surfaces cleaned and disinfected properly?
      • Dust buildup was observed on the work surfaces as well as on bottles and containers of cosmetic products.Ensure that all work surfaces are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition at all times during operational hours.
    • 30. Is the reprocessing area of a personal service facility that uses reusable equipment properly designed, managed and maintained to ensure the safety of clients?
      • Dishwashing supplies were observed on the reprocessing sink. The operator indicated that staff occasionally wash their lunch utensils in this sink. Education was provided, and staff removed the dishwashing supplies during the inspection.Ensure that the reprocessing sink is used only for its intended purpose, which is the cleaning and disinfection of personal services equipment, and that all incompatible activities are kept separate from the sink and surrounding areas.
    • 33. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this personal services facility (Non-Critical)?
      • Disinfection of the drill bits was reportedly being performed at the client service station.Ensure that all reprocessing of nail drill bits including pre-disinfection cleaning, post-disinfection rinsing, and full submersion of the drill bits in the disinfection solution is conducted only in the designated reprocessing area.

    • 09. Is a point of service risk assessment being performed of the condition of the client and of the equipment to be used on the client prior to performing a personal service?
      • Rusted nail clipper was observed in one of the manicure station drawers. Rusted tools cannot be properly cleaned and disinfected. Staff discarded the item during inspection.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • Cosmetic product's bottles at workstations were not labeled. Cosmetic products used for personal services must be clearly labeled with the product identity. Product identity, list of ingredients, and manufacturer information must be readily accessible to workers at all times to ensure safe use.
    • 30. Is the reprocessing area of a personal service facility that uses reusable equipment properly designed, managed and maintained to ensure the safety of clients?
      • The reprocessing sink has been installed, and the walls have been painted.However, the back area still requires organization. There is currently no adequate space designated for the storage of cleaned and dirty equipment. It is essential to ensure a one-way workflow from dirty to cleaned equipment to prevent cross-contamination.

      • As per manufacturer's instructions, test strips must be used to determine if disinfectant solution is acceptable to be used more than once. Please obtain test strips for testing disinfectant re-use period to verify its efficacy. Please record each time disinfectant solution is changed, and record the date of the test on the 7th day of its re-use period. Disinfectant must be changed every 14 days regardless of test result.

      • 1. Pedicure basins were not being cleaned and disinfected properly. Please ensure pedicure basins are cleaned with a towel with soap and water first, then, with a second towel, apply intermediate level disinfectant. 2. Manufacturer's instructions were not followed while disinfecting the equipment. Proper disinfection of equipment cannot be achieved without following the manufacturer's instructions.3. As per manufacturer's instructions, test strips must be used to determine if disinfectant solution is acceptable to be used more than once. Please obtain test strips for testing disinfectant re-use period to verify its efficacy. Please record each time disinfectant solution is changed, and record the date of the test on the 7th day of its re-use period. Disinfectant must be changed every 14 days regardless of test result.

      • 1. Client areas for manicures including tables and chairs need to be cleaned more frequently.2. Floor in front is worn and is not in good repair and as such it needs to be replaced.
