Inspection summary
Royal Canadian Legion #29 has been inspected 15 times by Interior Health Authority since April 9, 2013. The most recent inspection, on March 4, 2026, recorded 2 infractions.
9 of 15 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 2 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Handwashing and staff hygiene and Food source, labelling and allergens.
The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded 3 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on March 4, 2026. For example:
3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on March 4, 2026. For example:
7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
Food source, labelling and allergensHigher risk
Food must come from approved suppliers, stay in labelled containers and be thrown out when it is spoiled or damaged, such as dented or swollen cans. Labelling matters for allergies: an unlabelled container can hide an allergen.
Recorded once on February 11, 2025. For example:
6 Are the foods from approved sources and has the operator taken steps to ensure that the food is safe for consumption?
Food temperature controlHigher risk
Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.
Recorded once on August 1, 2023. For example:
2 Are proper temperature controls maintained to ensure safe storage and display of foods?
Equipment and utensilsLower risk
Equipment has to be built from cleanable materials, kept in good repair and stored properly. These findings are mostly about upkeep, like a cracked shelf, a worn gasket or utensils stored the wrong way. They are generally lower risk but show how well the kitchen is maintained.
Recorded once on May 29, 2015. For example:
14 - Are the premises, equipment and utensils designed and maintained to ensure safe and sanitary food handling?

The maximum temperature recorded in the dishwasher was 39 degrees Celsius. According to the machine specifications, the unit is a chemical dishwasher, not a high-temperature dishwasher. Two bottles of rinse aid were connected to the machine; however, no bottle containing sanitizer was connected. Both connected bottles were tested using various sanitizer test strips, and 0 ppm sanitizer was detected.
