      • Chlorine test papers were not available at the time of the inspection.Corrective action: Please ensure chlorine test papers are available.
    • 08. Is this facility properly constructed (Non-Critical)?
      • The hand sink designated for diapering in the room was still being used for toy washing according to staff.Corrective action: In accordance with the agreement with the YMCA, please ensure that the toy washing is being conducted in the two compartment sink in the YMCA room.

    • 06. Are proper protocols being followed in regards to client care?
      • Dec. 12, 2024:Suitable restraints are not provided for the elevated diaper change surface.Jan. 7, 2025: Restraints were installed. However, staff was struggling to show how to use them.Corrective Action:- Ensure suitable restraints such as safety belts or another approved device is provided for the elevated diaper changing surface.- Advised director to temporarily conduct diapering on the floor with the diaper change mat until restraints are provided.
    • 09. Are properly operating hand washing sink(s) available in suitable location(s), and properly stocked with handwashing supplies?
      • Not in Compliance:The paper towel at the hand washing sink is not being kept in a suitable dispenser.Corrective Action:Ensure paper towel is stored in a suitable dispenser to protect from contamination.In Compliance:The sink in the room is now only being used for hand washing (diapering). Toy washing is occurring in room next door (YMCA's out of school care program).
    • 32. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this child care facility (Non-Critical)?
      • One of the light covers in the room is missing.Discussed some options with the Director, such as:- Installing the light fixture cover.- Installing plastic sleeve light bulb covers (tube guards).- Replacing with plastic LED bulbs (don't require cover/guard).- Removing exposed light bulbs (if there is adequate lighting).Jan. 7, 2025: - Director noted that these lightbulbs will be removed, as there should be enough lighting without them.- This will be confirmed upon reinspection.

      • Suitable restraints are not provided for the elevated diaper change surface.Corrective Action:- Ensure suitable restraints such as safety belts or another approved device is provided for the elevated diaper changing surface.- Advised director to temporarily conduct diapering on the floor with the diaper change mat until restraints are provided.
    • 08. Is this facility properly constructed (Non-Critical)?
      • There is only one sink in the room which is being used for both hand washing (diapering) and toy washing. Corrective Action:- Ensure there is a hand washing sink accessible for toy washing. It cannot be the same sink used for handwashing (diapering), and it cannot be a washroom sink. - Advised director to temporarily clean/disinfect this sink between different uses, until issue is resolved.
    • 09. Are properly operating hand washing sink(s) available in suitable location(s), and properly stocked with handwashing supplies?
      • Observed:1) There is only one sink in the room which is being used for both hand washing (diapering) and toy washing. Corrective Action:- Ensure there is a hand washing sink dedicated for the diapering area. This sink shall not be used for other activities such as toy washing, food preparation, or to fill/mix bottles.- Advised director to temporarily clean/disinfect this sink between different uses, until issue is resolved.2) The paper towel at the hand washing sink is not being kept in a suitable dispenser.Corrective Action:Ensure paper towel is stored in a suitable dispenser to protect from contamination.

      • The facility has a child/staff illness log template but is not using it to record illness.Corrective Action:- Advised director to use child/staff illness log to record illness.- Also, discussed the updated AHS document titled "Guide for Outbreak Prevention & Control in Child Care Facilities" and who/when to report an outbreak.
