What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded once on February 7, 2014. For example:
2 - Are dishes, utensils and food contact surfaces properly cleaned and sanitized?
Building, plumbing and upkeepLower risk
Floors, walls and ceilings must be smooth and clean, with working lighting, ventilation, plumbing, hot and cold water, and washrooms. These are rarely an immediate food-safety risk on their own, but persistent problems can lead to pest or sanitation issues.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on June 15, 2023. For example:
2 Is the premises construction and layout unchanged and in accordance with approved plans?
Other findingsLower risk
Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.

- F2.1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?
- Observation(s): • No sanitizer testing strips onsite. Please purchase the appropriate sanitizer testing strips. Currently facility is using quats sanitizer for food contact surfaces.
- F2.1A Sanitizer test strips must be available for each chemical sanitizer used at the premises.
- F2.7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
- Observation(s): • Distance from ice cream service area is potentially inconvenient location for staff to move back and forth for proper hand washing. Previous location is more conveniently located for staff to practice proper hand hygiene practices. Still about 10ft-15ft away can be inconvenient • Again if wanting use this area than install hand washing station closer and having dipper well plumbed nearby also, Please provide floor plans prior to starting any construction. Floor plans must be approved by EHO
- F3.2 Is the premises construction and layout unchanged and in accordance with approved plans?
- Observation(s): • During time of inspection the ice cream service area was observed in the area nearby the feed area of the business (separated). Operator stated this was moved here during COVID-19 to allow for food service, operator stated previous EHO had stated it can be moved here. However, move was not verified at that time by the EHO. • The waterline for the dipper well was observed to be connected to the waterline hose that ran to the back of the facility outside. This water is from an approved water source the Interlakes Strata WS. There is a possible risk of this becoming exposed and possibly contaminating the water being supplied to the dipper well. Also the waste water from the dipper well as told by the operator was being disposed into a pit located just outside the facility., this waste water was not being disposed of in the community sewage system. Corrective Actions: • The location of the ice cream service and dipper well should be returned to original location prior to COVID-19 location change. As the plumbing system (water hose connection ) that is installed can pose a potential risk of contaminating the water going to the dipper well. Also the way the water is being disposed is in violation of the Sewerage System Regulation. • If wanting to install it in this location the plumbing for the dipper well and the wastewater disposal must met building code and our requirements. Please provide floor plans prior to starting any construction.
