5 inspections

  1. Monitoring

    1 infraction

    • F2.2 Are proper pest control measures in place on the premises?
      • Observation(s): Gaps were noted in some exterior door seals that may permit the entry of rodents (ie. mice). Please straighten or replace (it appears that this door has already been straightened and braced) the one bent man door and, replace the door seals where gaps were noted on the bottom/side. Please repair/replace the side seal on the one dock leveler where the gap was noted. Please replace the bottom seal on the other overhead door where the gap was noted.
  2. Monitoring

    3 infractions

    • F1.7 Are foods protected from contamination?
      • Observation(s): As identified at the time of inspection, the ice freezer used to store cube ice between production and packaging, is open at the top and the ceiling above is coated with a spray on insulation. This insulation can sluff off as evident with some missing patches and reinforcement bracing found on some facility walls and ceiling. Operator indicated that a solid surface aluminum paneling will be installed on the ceiling overtop of the open ice cube freezer in early January 2025 in order to reduce the possibility of insulation contaminating ice within the open freezer. As part of this work and as discussed onsite, please include the upper wall section adjacent to and in-front of the ice cube freezer that is also coated in spray on insulation. Please follow-up by Jan 30, 2025 on the completion of this work.
    • F2.2 Are proper pest control measures in place on the premises?
      • Observation(s): Please provide tight fitting seals on the one overhead door between the bottom of the door and dock leveler.
    • F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
      • Observation(s): Also as discussed, the drainage channel and sump pit pit that houses the bottom end of the ice cube transfer auger was observed in a visibly unclean condition and the associated sump pump used to prevent water from rising to the level of the auger was unplugged and the hard wired sump was observed broken. As discussed onsite, please clean the drainage channel and sump pit and after cleaning, assess the condition of the drainage channel surface - please resurface where cleanability is impacted. Please also repair the hardwired sump pump. Please also clean the production room floor underneath the block machine that also appeared to require additional cleaning and remove duct tape from the bagging part of the block machine to improve cleanability of equipment.
  3. Monitoring

    2 infractions

    • F1.7 Are foods protected from contamination?
      • Observation(s): a.) Observed a vertical supply auger used to load ice into the main ice cube storage bin located in close proximity to ceiling insulation - the ceiling insulation above this auger appeared either to be hollowed out prior to install or eroded by ice as it spills from the vertical transport to the horizontal transport section of the ice distribution auger. b.) Observed the lower section of a vertical supply auger (that transports ice cubes from the main ice storage bin into the packing room) located within a sump pit without a dedicated drain built into the design of the sump pit - water accumulation in this sump pit requires staff to manually turn on a sump pump to drain accumulated water (the sump water in this sump pit was observed as discoloured/unsanitary). c.) 1 (possibly 2) of the 3 ice making machines in the main ice cube production room were observed without an air gap(s) on the overflow drain line that empties into a plastic storage bin (water is then pumped into a heat exchanger to recycle the overflow water).
    • F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
      • Observation(s): Concrete floor around the main ice storage bin was observed as worn, uneven, no longer cleanable, durable or tight fitting and accumulation of water on this floor from ice melt is part of normal processes. Observed ceiling insulation in the large walk-in freezer is separating from the ceiling structure above. Corrective actions have included installation of strapping that appears to have contained the issue until a more permanent repair can be completed. Operator indicated that the company/building owner have discussed some preliminary ideas that may involve replacing problematic areas of ceiling insulation a section at a time.
  4. Monitoring

    2 infractions

    • F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
      • Observation(s): Handwashing sink in the bagging area is a laundry sink that is fairly porous and hard to clean and has a visible discolouring. A hand sink should be made of a material that is durable, non-porous and easy to clean Follow up by March 2019
      • F2.5B The premises must be properly constructed and maintained in good, clean and sanitary condition.
    • F2.6 Are the premises designed and equipped to ensure safe food handling?
      • Observation(s): Insulation on the ceiling over top of the large ice bin is exposed. Please cover insulation so there is no potential physical contamination of the ice. Follow-up March of 2019
      • F2.6I Food premises operations must be separated from incompatible areas and activities.

Absolutely the best ice around. And I personally have found that the service has been excellent. Honestly, top tier company providing a fantastic product.

As my family sits in 38c at a campground this company has not dropped off ice or contacted the campground manger for 4 days. Instead everyone here is driving into the city for bags of ice to keep their food from rotting. It’s Canada, land of ice , yet they have dropped the ball. Benefit of the doubt is they are understaffed like everyone else, but still, they should have planned for a big push over August long weekend .
