    • 26. Are proper measures being taken to ensure that vermin do not enter or exist in the facility (Critical)?
      • At time of inspection:Three (3) childcare rooms (i.e. infant, toddler, and pre-school storage rooms) were inspected to determine if a rodent issue remains existing. Infant Room - East side crawlspace-style storage roomToddler Room (upstairs) - North door storage room.Pre-School Room (upstairs) - West storage room (which leads into a south storage room).1. All three storage rooms were inspected. It appears that any rodents and their droppings were removed from each storage room. There did not appear to be any signs of rodents or their droppings upon site visit to all three rooms. Previous photographs submitted by the operator indicates that a rodent problem did (and still likely) exists.2. There appeared to be one (1) self-contained rodent trap - located in the pre-school room. It is unclear when it was installed or whether it has been checked.The owner / operator of this facility / building is requested to immediately conduct the following, namely:1. Identify exactly "who" is responsible for pest control within this facility / building.2. Once identified, that owner / operator / responsible person(s) shall immediately contact a qualified pest control professional and have this professional fully inspect all three storage rooms (and any other possible rooms where they may be entering) and:- seal any pest entry points and - fumigate as necessary.3. The owner / operator / person(s) responsible shall submit an inspection report indicating that this pest issue in all three childcare rooms has been fumigated.

      • At time of inspection:1. There was no paper towel noted in both upstairs daycare room washrooms.2. One infant change table (within the main floor infant room) was noted to be a far distance from the nearest washroom / hand wash sink.The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Ensure all washrooms contain warm and cold potable water, liquid hand soap, and disposable hand towels.****THIS ISSUE WAS ADDRESSED DURING INSPECTION.2. Move the infant change table so it is near a hand wash station (i.e. near the main washroom).

      • At time of inspection:1. Some refrigerators (that contained high risk / perishable foods / beverages - such as prepared infant formula bottles) did not contain a functional thermometer inside.2. Temperature records were not available for refrigerators that contain high risk / perishable foods / beverages.The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Ensure all refrigerators (that contain high risk/perishable food and/or beverage items) contain a functional thermometer inside. 2. Temperature records must be maintained for any refrigerator(s) used to store high risk/perishable foods / beverages (such as pre-made infant formula). A temperature record sheet was provided to the director of this facility.

      • At time of inspection:1. This facility appears to be handling food within this facility without a valid food handling permit. Be advised that this facility is not permitted to handle food unless prior approval has been granted to do so.The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Fill out the food handling permit application. This facility will only be permitted to offer pre-packaged low-risk snacks - such as granola bars and whole fruit (i.e. bananas).******AT TIME OF RE-INSPECTION, A FOOD HANDLING PERMIT (TO OFFER PRE-PACKAGED LOW-RISK FOOD ITEMS) HAS NOT YET BEEN SUBMITTED TO THE REGIONAL HEALTH AUTHORITY. THEREFORE, THIS ISSUE REMAINS EXISTING.

      • At time of inspection:1. Some floor mats within this facility were not in good repair and thus pose a tripping hazard.The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Remove any floor mats that pose to be a tripping hazard. It is strongly recommended to have a professional company hired to constantly replace / launder all floor mats within this facility.****AT TIME OF RE-INSPECTION, THIS ISSUE REMAINS EXISTING.

    • 03. Are clients at this facility being protected from hazards (Critical)?
      • At time of inspection:1. Chemicals (found in storage cabinets below the sink) were not properly secured. Children have complete access to these cabinets.The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Ensure all cabinets are fully secured where chemicals are stored within. It is strongly suggested that if this is a problem that chemicals not be stored in such areas.******THESE CABINETS WERE RE-SECURED DURING INSPECTION.
    • 09. Are properly operating hand washing sink(s) available in suitable location(s), and properly stocked with handwashing supplies?
      • At time of inspection:1. There were some rooms (not all) where various sinks were obstructed with debris or the sinks were not properly equipped with liquid soap or paper towels.The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Ensure all sink basins are not obstructed and are fully supplied with warm and cold potable water, liquid hand soap, and disposable hand towels - preferably in dispensers.
    • 10. Is a properly supplied first aid kit provided and readily available?
      • At time of inspection:1. Some first aid kits (not all) were not adequately stocked with supplies.The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Go through all first aid kits within this entire facility and ensure all kits are kept fully stocked.
    • 18. Is the facility and equipment being maintained in a suitable manner (Non-Critical)?
      • At time of inspection:1. Diapers appeared to be changed directly on a mat (which was situated directly on the floor). Children have the capability of touching the floor surface and this is not sanitary. Change tables are being provided but it appears that they are high off the floor and thus can pose an occupational health and safety issue to employees attempting to lift heavier children onto these devices.The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Devise a diaper-changing method that keeps children off the floor (and thus are not able to touch the floor surface).

      • At time of inspection:1. Various washrooms within all daycare rooms were not found to be in a clean and sanitary condition. Various items / debris were found within most washrooms. The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Remove any unnecessary items debris from each washroom. Clean and sanitize all washrooms. Ensure all washrooms contain an adequate amount of supplies (i.e. liquid hand soap and paper towels).

Determine which cabinets are going to be restricted for child access and have all security devices installed within these areas.

      • At time of inspection:1. Chemical test strips were not obtained for this facility.The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Obtain chemical test strips for whatever sanitizer you plan to use to disinfect surfaces and toys.

      • At time of inspection:1. Some hand sinks were not properly equipped with liquid hand soap and/or disposable hand towels (both in dispensers).The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Ensure all hand sinks (throughout this entire facility) contain warm and cold potable water, liquid hand soap, and disposable hand towels (both in dispensers).

      • At time of inspection:1. Some small first aid kits were noted in this facility, however, larger first aid kits will need to be obtained due to the amount of children proposed to be in care within this entire facility.The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Ensure larger first aid kits are obtained due to the amount of children proposed to be in care.
    • 32. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this child care facility (Non-Critical)?
      • At time of inspection, the following were noted:1. Children's cubbies were not secured to the wall in the upper floor childcare rooms (i.e. baby and pre-school rooms).2. Various chemical spray bottles were noted but were empty and not labelled to identify the active ingredients within each bottle.3. Diapering change tables were not yet obtained.4. Communication devices (i.e. walkie-talkies) were not yet obtained for each room and for the playground area.5. Linens have not yet been obtained for child napping / sleeping. The owner / operator of this facility is requested to conduct the following, namely:1. Secure all children's cubbies on the upper floor (baby and pre-school rooms).2. Ensure all chemical spray bottles contain a label to identify the active ingredients within each spray bottle.3. Obtain diapering change tables for all applicable childcare rooms.4. Ensure all emergency communication devices are obtained and properly functional.5. Obtain appropriate linens for child sleeping areas.
