Elysian Nails

7660 156 Street NW Edmonton AB T5R 4K7 · Personal Services

Inspection summary

Elysian Nails has been inspected 4 times by Alberta Health Services (Environmental Public Health) since April 10, 2024. The most recent inspection, on July 20, 2026, found no infractions.

1 of 4 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 3 inspections with 17 infractions recorded. All recorded findings relate to upkeep, equipment or paperwork rather than direct infection-control risks to clients.

Recent inspections have recorded fewer infractions than earlier ones, so the record is improving.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their findings differently, so we group them by what they mean for clients. In personal service settings like salons, spas and tattoo studios, higher-risk findings are the ones that could spread infection from one client to the next, through broken skin, blood or instruments that were not properly cleaned and sterilized.

  • Equipment and utensilsLower risk

Instruments, chairs, tables and footbaths must be made of materials that can be cleaned, kept in good repair and stored so they stay clean. Single-use items such as nail files, buffers, razors and needles must be thrown away after each client.

Recorded 14 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on July 14, 2026. For example: Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?

  • Building, plumbing and upkeepLower risk

The premises needs a working hand sink, a separate sink for cleaning instruments where required, cleanable surfaces, and good lighting and ventilation. Upkeep problems are usually lower risk on their own, but they make thorough cleaning harder.

Recorded 4 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on July 15, 2026. For example: Is the facility properly constructed and maintained to allow for the safe and sanitary provision of personal services (Non-Critical)?

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, client records, sterilization logs and required signage. Client records matter because they let health officials contact people if an infection is linked to the business.

Recorded 3 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on July 14, 2026. For example: Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?

  • Other findingsLower risk

Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.

Recorded 8 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on July 14, 2026. For example: Are waste sharps disposed of properly?

    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • Updated on July 14, 2026:* The manufacturer's instructions for use of high-level disinfectant (Preempt CS20) were not followed: the disinfectant was sprayed on tools and pedicure baths. Tools must be disinfected by soaking in Preempt CS20 for at least 20 minutes, and an appropriate surface disinfectant must be used for disinfection of pedicure baths and fans.(1) PREempt CS20 was being used for the pedicure basins. The contact time is too long (20 minutes) for a pedicure basin. An intermediate-level disinfectant (with a shorter contact time) is recommended.(2) Operator indicated nail drill bits are soaked in alcohol. Manicure drill bits are semi-critical equipment. Please use a proper disinfectant on the drill bits.* PREempt CS20 (a high level disinfectant) was available on site and was being used for other tools.* The operator had started the High Level Disinfectant Log for this disinfectant.* Proper test strip were available at the time of inspection: AHP7 test strips used.
    • 24. Are waste sharps disposed of properly?
      • (1) The sharps waste container was an empty plastic bottle/jug. It did not have a secure lid and it was not properly labeled to indicate that it was a sharps container. It was located on the floor next to the service area sink where it could easily be knocked over. The operator labeled the jug with a sharpie at the time of inspection.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • Evidence of contamination of bulk supply was observed: a scoop was immersed in the paraffin in the paraffin bath.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • Some cosmetic products did not have appropriate labels (unlabelled bottles or no ingredients listed). Ensure that all cosmetic products have appropriate labels.
    • 27. Is the facility maintained in a visibly clean state and are environmental surfaces cleaned and disinfected properly?
      • Surfaces were not visibly clean: waxing pots were covered with wax, workstations and products were covered with nail dust, the cabinet used for storage of clean tools had debris inside, and walls in the waxing room were not visibly clean.
    • 29. Is the facility properly constructed and maintained to allow for the safe and sanitary provision of personal services (Non-Critical)?

      • (1) The sink in the front service area was being used for handwashing (staff and clients) and reprocessing of tools. There is inadequate counter space for the washing, drying and disinfection of tools. * There was an extra sink in the waxing room. However, it was not being used for handwashing or tool reprocessing. Recommend using this sink for equipment reprocessing as it is out of the way of clients and is in a low traffic area. Add a table or shelf for adequate counter space for the cleaning, drying and disinfection steps required.
    • 33. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this personal services facility (Non-Critical)?

  4. Initial Inspection

    12 infractions

    • 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
      • (1) The written procedures templates had been printed by the operator but had not been fully completed. • 10. Is cleansing and antisepsis of skin and mucous membrane performed in accordance to written procedures and are suitable products being used?
      • (1) There was no cleanser available for cleaning the skin prior to the waxing service. • 14. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Non-Critical)?
      • (1) PREempt CS20 in a spray bottle was being used on the reusable nail files. Instead of PREempt CS20, an antiseptic product such as 70% alcohol (which the operator had on site) can be used as it evaporates easily (keeping the risk of chemical burns low). * A disinfectant must not be used for this process because:(a) uncleanable equipment cannot be disinfected,(b) using a disinfectant with a DIN on uncleanable equipment is off label use, which is in contravention of the Standards,(c) rinsing of disinfectant on a porous equipment cannot be guaranteed and may pose increased risk of chemical burns.
