2207 Glenmore Road, D, Campbell River, BC, V9H 1E1 · Food Premises

Inspection summary

Forbidden Zone has been inspected 3 times by Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority) since September 1, 2026. The most recent inspection, on September 9, 2026, recorded 1 infraction.

None of the 3 inspections on record were free of infractions. In the past 12 months there were 3 inspections with 6 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Food temperature control and Cleaning and sanitizing.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on September 2, 2026. For example: Critical Inadequate Cooling & Refrigerated Storage of Potentially Hazardous Food(s)

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded once on September 1, 2026. For example: Critical Improper Cleaning, Sanitizing of Equipment and Utensils

  • Building, plumbing and upkeepLower risk

Floors, walls and ceilings must be smooth and clean, with working lighting, ventilation, plumbing, hot and cold water, and washrooms. These are rarely an immediate food-safety risk on their own, but persistent problems can lead to pest or sanitation issues.

Recorded once on September 1, 2026. For example: Improper Construction / Maintenance of Establishment

  • Other findingsLower risk

Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on September 9, 2026. For example: Operations and Maintenance/Other

      • Comments Code 105 from last inspection report addressed, clear sliding door has been repaired and able to maintain food at or below 4°celsius. General Comments: - Milk under counter cooler at 2.4°celsius. - New IR Temperature gun was ordered by the operator.
  2. Follow-Up

    1 infraction

    • Critical Inadequate Cooling & Refrigerated Storage of Potentially Hazardous Food(s)
      • - Clear sliding door cooler is still at around 6°celsius after the temperature setting has adjusted to the coldest. Sauce stored in the cooler is also at around 6°celsius.
      • - Contract maintenance company to repair the cooler. Do not store potentially hazardous foods inside until it has been repaired and able to maintain food temperature to at or below 4°celsius. Comments Code 108, 116 and 119 noted from the routine inspection report were addressed. - QUAT sanitizer in spray bottle is being used for sanitizing food contact surfaces. - Can opener has been cleaned and sanitized. - Temperature checking is being conducted at least twice per day. - Thermometer used is displaying accurate temperature. - General sanitation and facility organization has been improved. - QUAT sanitizer from 3-compartment sink measured at 200 parts per million. - All other coolers were at or below 4°cvelsius. All freezers were at or below -19°celius. Note: Ensure alcohol based sanitizer is not being used on food contact surfaces. - Operator indicated home storage is no longer to be used. Confirmation will be required to be provided to the Environmental Health Officer.
  3. Routine

    4 infractions

    • Critical Inadequate Cooling & Refrigerated Storage of Potentially Hazardous Food(s)
      • 1. Milk fridge under the Espresso Machine was at 10°celsius. Cream stored inside the fridge at 10°celsius. 2. Clear door display cooler was at 6.5°celsius. Temperature log history indicated that the cooler temperature was often between 6 to 7°celsius. IR Temperature Gun used to verify refrigeration unit is not displaying accurate Temperature reading, which will require calibration or replacement.
      • 1. Corrected onsite - Staff discarded dairy products stored in the fridge and adjusted the fridge temperature. Fridge temperature is at 0°celsius after the adjustment. 2. Closely monitor the cooler temperature. If the cooler temperature can not be maintained at or below 4°celsius then it would need to be repaired or replaced.
    • Critical Improper Cleaning, Sanitizing of Equipment and Utensils
      • 1.QUAT sanitizer in spray bottle measured at 100 parts per million and inadequate for sanitization of food contact surfaces. QUAT sanitizer test strips available onsite for verifications. 2. Can opener is covered with debris and needs to be cleaned and sanitized.
      • 1. Completed onsite - instructed staff to replace the QUAT sanitizer in spray bottle. QUAT sanitizer will need to be in between 200 to 400 parts per million and replaced on a daily basis.
