What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded once on January 10, 2023. For example: 2 Are proper temperature controls maintained to ensure safe storage and display of foods?

After dining in at 266 eateries in Vernon, I am now eating everywhere in Armstrong. This was my eleventh eatery in Armstrong. This FreshSlice is inside of an Esso gas station. There is an area with three chairs, a counter with olive oil, hot sauce, and salt and pepper to eat. Staff was friendly. There were a ton of pizzas available by the slice here. This is in contrast to JJs which is the only other place in Armstrong with pizza by the slice and JJs only had three slices total. I bought a Mexican Chicken and a Butter Chicken slice for about $7 total. It's a little awkward to eat amongst the gas station foot traffic. The slices had that distinct FreshSlice taste you can find everywhere. I enjoyed my experience here. Did you know this FreshSlice predates both current Vernon locations? I did. It does not, however, predate the original short-lived location on 27th street in Vernon from over fifteen years ago. If you need pizza by the slice, this is your guaranteed available option in Armstrong. Again, staff was friendly.

This fresh slice is inside of a gas station. Everyone on staff was super nice to our family of 6. We were on a road trip and stopped here for pizza and the staff were extremely generous and patient with our big family taking up space to eat our pizza in their sitting area inside. There was a promotion on: a free soccer ball with a minimum $50 purchase. We spent 45. I asked if I could spend $5 more for a ball cause my kids were excited about the promo. They told me not to worry about it and ended up insisting on giving us 2 soccer balls for the kids. The pizza was really good and I got extra toppings on all of them and they were super generous with toppings. It was a super hot day and the whole store was busy but they were all in good spirits and very nice to us. I appreciated the service so much I wanted to write a review. Thx

Very nice and clean gas station, convenience, store, fresh slice pizza stop. They always have what I want, three slices of Hawaiian and a Pepsi. Generous portions. Nice and soft crust. Thanks!
