- 02. Is the bacteriological quality of the water in this pool satisfactory (Critical)?
- TC present in a sample submitted on November 25/2025 and December 2/2025Onsite inspection revealed sample contamination as a possible source.ACTION REQUIRED:1) Shock chlorinate the hot tub. Basin can be re-open after the shock chlorination.2) Submit a resample on Friday December 5th/2025
- 03. Is the bacteriological quality of the water in this pool satisfactory (Non-Critical)?
- The maintenance staff member who collected the failed water samples was asked to demonstrate the sampling procedure. The demonstration revealed the following issues:- He first placed the bottle cover on the table.- Next, he inverted the sample bottle, spilling the salt inside into the pool basin.- He then took a grab sample with the bottle still upside down, after which he used his thumb to cap the opening to prevent spillage.Following this, the inspector provided the correct sampling procedure to the hotel manager and the maintenance staff.**Please print the sample collection procedure handout attached to this report and have all maintenance read it
- 05. Is the chemical quality of the water in this pool satisfactory (Non-Critical)?
- - The alkalinity level was 91 ppm.- The combined chlorine was 1.18 ppm, which is too high.ACTION REQUIRED:1) The combined chlorine concentration must be reduced and maintained as low as reasonably achievable, ideally below 0.50 ppm.2) Super-chlorinate the hot tub to effectively breakdown the high combined chlorine level.
- 07. Are the filtration, circulation and disinfection systems used to maintain water quality working properly (Non-Critical)?
- - Turnover Time: 14.2 minutes (Based on 1630gal/115gpm)- Filtration Rate: 15.5gpm/sq.ft (Calculated from 115gpm/7.4sq.ft).The maximum allowable filtration rate is 12.5gpm/sq.ftACTION REQUIRED:Reduce the flow rate to a range of 82-92gpm to meet the regulatory compliance standard for the filtration rate.
- 15. Has an owner or owner's agent, if any, been identified and is the pool operated and maintained by a qualified pool operator?
- **Proper training on the use of the ColorQ pool test kit is essential for all maintenance staff. During a recent demonstration of pool chemistry testing, the staff member failed to perform two critical steps: rinsing the cuvette and blanking the machine before testing for different parameters. The inspector subsequently demonstrated the correct procedure.

- 04. Is the chemical quality of the water in this pool satisfactory (Critical)?
- **It was noted that the operator had disconnected the acid feeder from power. When asked why, the operator stated it is feeding too much acid, and he does not trust the controller. He was manually adding chemicals into the pool without any training to do so. **Readings taken from the controller: pH = 7.4 and ORP = 505mVPHI READINGS**FCL = 0.48ppm- TCL = 1.68- pH = 7.2ACTION REQUIRED:1) Maintain free chlorine at 2ppm as required by the pool standards2) Ensure that the controller is set to maintain the required pool chemical parameters3) Calibrate the probes to ensure that the readings on the controller are similar to those from manual test.
- 05. Is the chemical quality of the water in this pool satisfactory (Non-Critical)?
- **CC = 1.21ppm- ALK = 123ppmACTION REQUIRED:1) Maintain combine chlorine levels as low a s possible, recommended to be kept below 0.5ppm. - super chlorinate the basin to lower the combine chlorine or you can just dilute or drain and refill with fresh water and then balance pool chemistry.
- 07. Are the filtration, circulation and disinfection systems used to maintain water quality working properly (Non-Critical)?
- - Turnover = 1630gal/115gpm = 14.2 minutes**Filtration rate = 115gpm/7.4sq.ft = 15.5gpm/sq.ftACTION REQUIRED:1) The filtration rate for high-rate sand filter in a whirlpool/hot tub shall not exceed 12.5gpm/sq.ft. To achieve compliance, please maintain your flow rate between 82-92gpm.
- 15. Has an owner or owner's agent, if any, been identified and is the pool operated and maintained by a qualified pool operator?
- ** The main trained pool operator was absent for health reasons. The maintenance person assisting in running the pool was not knowledgeable enough to perform any pool chemistry adjust:- First, he had disconnected the acid feeder from power on the grounds that it was feeding too much acid.- Secondly, his readings taken that morning showed that all chemical parameters were compliant, but logs showed that he added more chemicals into the pool. When asked why he added more chemicals and what quantity? He stated that he does not trust the controller and he added about a cup of the chemicals. He did not even know what the pool volume was before making chemicals into the pool.RECOMMENDATIONS:1) Only trained pool operators should be allowed to make any chemical adjustment in the pool.2) Ensure that any staff assisting with pool testing should be well trained and familiar with the required chemical parameters for the pool and hot tub.3) Establish a guiding document with all the pool chemical parameters for the staff to reference when needed. The document should also clearly outline chemical adjustment procedures.

- 07. Are the filtration, circulation and disinfection systems used to maintain water quality working properly (Non-Critical)?
- Filter surface area is 4.9 sq.ft. The filter was recently installed. Pool volume is 3880L/1025 gal. Flow rate was 80gpm.- Turnover = 1025gal/80gpm = 12.8 minutes.** Filtration rate = 80gpm/4.9 sq.ft = 16.32gpm/sq.ft. The filtration rate is too fast. The filtration rate for a high-rate sand filter in a whirlpool shall not exceed 12.5 gpm/sq.ft. Even though the pool may have been constructed before 2006, any newly installed equipment shall comply with the current standards,REMARKS: Based on the information available, the filter appears to be undersized for the hot tub. Even if you reduce the flow rate to the minimum required flow rate of 68gpm, the filtration rate will still exceed the max filtration rate of 12.5gpm/sq.ft. A new filter may be required to achieve compliance with the filtration rating requirements.
- 17. Does the pool have adequate written policies, plans and posted rules and safety information to ensure that the pool is operating in a safe manner?
- An appropriate anti-entrapment plan has not been submitted. The anti-entrapment plan that was submitted was incomplete and information on the assessment appeared to be misleading. Please take immediate action to complete the anti-entrapment assessment and submit the results to our office for review.
