- Four used nail filers found in one of the manicure stations were being re-used. They appeared to be contaminated.The operator voluntarily discarded the nail filers.Equipment must be discarded after use on one client if the manufacturer labels it as: single-use, not for reuse, do not reuse, disposable, discard after single-use, or do not use twice.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- HLD5 and Pre-empt CS20 were available for disinfecting reusable semi-critical tools.Test strips for Pre-empt CS20 7% accelerated hydrogen peroxide were available but were used past expiry date.No test strips were available for HLD. The operator was advised to acquire relevant test strips for both the disinfectants.- High level disinfectants are not being tested and verified daily using proper test strips. Ensure the high-level disinfectant is tested daily using the test strips specified by the disinfectant manufacturer.- Disinfection records were not available. Ensure records are kept of: test dates, whether the solution passed/failed, when the disinfectant was changed and the worker’s initials who performed the activity.
