      • Written procedures for skin cleansing & antiseptic application for various services were completed at the time of inspection.

    • 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
      • Expired hand sanitizers were discarded/removed from the facility upon request where needed.
    • 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
      • Comedone loops with "piercing tips" were observed. These are considered to be critical equipment that must be discarded after each use or sterilized using steam as its sterilant. The tools were removed from the facility at the time of inspection and will no longer be used.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • 1. Numerous client service areas contained high-level disinfectant trays with PreEmpt CS20. Proper high-level disinfectant logs were not being maintained for each tray.
    • 21. Is equipment that is intended to be sterile maintained sterile at the point of use?
      • Sterile lancets used for facial extractions were expired and were discarded at the time of inspection. Discussed sterility assurance requirements.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • 1. Decanted cosmetic product used for esthetic services in the facial room was labelled with its contents at the time of inspection.2. One of the facial rooms contained a Purell sanitizer bottle that did not contain hand sanitizer. Operator agreed to remove this from the facility and/or obtain proper labelling information.3. The augenblick tint used for eyebrow tinting services had a label that read "not suitable for eyebrow/eyelash tinting and to do so may cause blindness". Operator removed these products from the client service area at the time of inspection as per request.4. Ardell clear adhesive for strip lashes was placed within the waxing room. This was not used for client services and was removed from the client service area as per request.5. Scoops were being stored in the bulk supply of pedicure salts. Re-iterated the requirement not to store scoops/spoon in the containers which could contaminate the bulk supply.6. The glass jar containing pedicure salts was not labelled within its contents. Re-iterated the requirement for labelling decanted cosmetic products and keeping the bulk supply on-site to confirm proper labelling requirements and ensure product has not expired, if applicable.

      • Facility-specific written procedures were completed at the time of inspection.The same sink is used for both handwashing and equipment reprocessing - written procedures that describe the decontamination steps were also completed at the time of inspection.
    • 10. Is cleansing and antisepsis of skin and mucous membrane performed in accordance to written procedures and are suitable products being used?
      • An appropriate type of antiseptic was purchased. Antiseptic products must have either a DIN or an NPN issued by Health Canada. Ensure personal services workers follow the instructions for use that accompany that antiseptic product. When a personal service involves the puncture of the skin, an antiseptic product must also be applied after skin cleansing.Personal services workers must follow the written procedures for the application of antiseptic products.
