      • Combined chlorine was around 3.26ppm. The spa tech operator added oxidizer and said to re-check the chlorine levels in a few hours.

      • The chlorine levels in the hot tub were too high. PHI tried testing the chlorine levels with their pool kit and 1st reading was "over range", then the dilution test read "over range". PHI used a chlorine test strip, and the strip indicated chlorine levels were higher than 50ppm (dark purple color).Due to this value PHI did not re-open the hot tub. PHI asked that general manager email PHI tomorrow with the chlorine values and if they are within regulatory range, PHI will permit re-opening the hot tub.

      • The sand filter for the hot tub is leaking. PHI observed the sand filter sitting in a pool of water. Ensure the sand filter is functioning properly.

      • pH of hot tub was measured at 8.21. This value is too high and must be within regulatory requirements.

      • The total chlorine levels were too high for PHI's pool test kit to read (reading came back as "Over Range"). A dilution test had to be performed to get a reading. Second reading was >10ppm. Although there is no upper range of chlorine levels in Alberta's legislation it is recommended to have chlorine between 2-5ppm.

      • Several plumbing fixtures/pipes and filters had crystallization and mineral deposits build up.Required Action: Repair or replace leaking plumbing and filter. Clean up crystalized mineral build up.

      • PHI did not observe manual tests written in the binder where the pool operator typically records pool chemistry tests. Ensure hot tub and pool are being manually monitored. Free chlorine, combined chlorine and PH must be tested at least once per day, automated readings and associated set points must be recorded once per day. Total alkalinity must be tested and recorded at least once per week.

High chlorine levels are harmful to bathers as it irritates the skin, eyes, and respiratory system, and can cause chemical burns or long-term health effects if exposure is frequent.Required Action: Please ensure the chlorine levels are at a minimum of 2ppm but not greater than 5ppm so chlorine levels can be tested.
