    • 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
      • Alcohol based hand rub (ABHR) available on-site was expired. Operator agreed to removed expired products from the facility.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • 1. No valid disinfectant was available for reprocessing nail tools. A high-level disinfectant must be available for reprocessing nail tools.Do not offer nail services until a high-level disinfectant is available onsite.2. No disinfection records were available. High level disinfectant testing records must be completed. Obtain proper indicator test strips for the high-level disinfectant.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • Re-iterated to staff not to use isopropyl alcohol as a tool disinfectant. All metal manicure/pedicure tools must be disinfected with a high-level disinfectant.Metal manicure/pedicure tools were being soaked in barbicide. Re-iterated that a high-level disinfectant is required.

      • The owner of the personal service business did not submit a notification about the business to the Alberta Health Services. Submit the notification to AHS.
    • 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
      • No written procedures were available onsite. The following procedures are required: -Client care in case of an accidental skin cut or puncture.-Preparation of skin prior to waxing.Establish written procedures.
    • 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
      • 1. Hair dye was being used as an eyebrow tint against manufacturer's instructions. All products must be used for their intended use and followed according to manufacturer's instructions. Education was provided.2. No written procedures were being followed. Templates will be provided to the operator.3. A valid high-level disinfectant is required for semi-critical nail tools. 4. An appropriate reprocessing sink and area is required to reprocess tools.
    • 10. Is cleansing and antisepsis of skin and mucous membrane performed in accordance to written procedures and are suitable products being used?
      • No written procedures were available or being followed for skin preparation prior to waxing. Establish written procedures for skin preparation.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • 1. No valid disinfectant was available for reprocessing nail tools. A high-level disinfectant must be available for reprocessing nail tools.Do not offer nail services until a high-level disinfectant is available onsite.2. No disinfection records were available. High level disinfectant testing records must be completed.3. Nail drill bits were being soaked in alcohol. Soak drill bits in a permitted disinfectant.

      • 1. Hair dye was being used as an eyebrow tint against manufacturer's instructions. All products must be used for their intended use according to manufacturer's instructions. Product was removed from the area onsite.2. An unlabelled oil product was stored in a container labelled as alcohol. Corrected onsite.
    • 30. Is the reprocessing area of a personal service facility that uses reusable equipment properly designed, managed and maintained to ensure the safety of clients?
      • No appropriate sink/area was available for reprocessing nail tools. The only sinks available on-site were the washroom sink and the hair washing sinks. Ensure that a dedicated sink, separate from the washroom sink, is installed for reprocessing tools, and that an area is designated for this purpose.
    • 33. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this personal services facility (Non-Critical)?
      • 1. There were scattered/miscellaneous products and tools in all client areas of the facility that the operator indicated were not in use or were for personal use. Items not used for client services must not be in client service areas. Some items were removed onsite. 2. Some coverings/linens had stains and marks. Ensure that single use items are maintained in a sanitary condition.
