What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

    Recorded once on December 6, 2023. For example: 205 - Critical Cold potentially hazardous food stored/displayed above 4 °C. [s. 14(2)]

  • Other findingsLower risk

Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.

Recorded once on December 6, 2023. For example: 501 - Operator does not have FOODSAFE Level 1 or Equivalent [s. 10(1)]

  1. Routine Inspection

    2 infractions

    • 205 - Critical Cold potentially hazardous food stored/displayed above 4 °C. [s. 14(2)]
      • Observation: Jerky that was labelled "refrigeration required" was found stored at a self-serve refrigerator measured at approximately 7°C. Operator is aware of the refrigerator issue and is waiting on a technician to repair the unit. Temperature abuse of potentially hazardous food can accelerate the growth of unwanted microbes, increasing the risk of foodborne illnesses.
      • Corrective Action: Operator moved jerky to a working cooler. Ensure no potentially hazardous foods are stored in the broken self-serve refrigerator unit until it has been repair or replace so that it can maintain a temperature of 4°C or below.
    • 501 - Operator does not have FOODSAFE Level 1 or Equivalent [s. 10(1)]
      • Observation: Employees working at time of inspection do not have FOODSAFE level 1 or equivalent training. A person in charge who has Level 1 FOODSAFE training must be on at all times the establishment is in operation to ensure safe food handling practices are followed.
      • Corrective Action: Operator to ensure at least one staff will have FOODSAFE level 1 training during operational hours.
