      • A strong foul odor was noted in the main kitchen and traced to a floor drain, which was observed uncovered with pipes from the walk-in cooler inserted into it. Please ensure the drain is properly covered and the plumbing issue is corrected.

    • 04. Does the operator use approved methods for cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, and surfaces?
      • No surface sanitizer solution was available during food preparation. The sanitizer observed in a spray bottle measured 0 ppm. The staff member prepared a 100 ppm chlorine solution as instructed. A sanitizer solution must be available at all times during food handling to ensure effective surface sanitizing.
    • 13. Are properly operating hand washing sink(s) accessible to food handlers, located in suitable areas, and stocked with appropriate hand washing supplies?
      • No soap was available in the hand sink located in the kitchen. The dispenser was refilled with liquid soap by a staff member during the inspection. The hand sink must be fully stocked with liquid soap and paper towels at all times.

      • Front-of-house area. The hot holding display unit with meat-containing pastries on display recorded surface temperatures of 44C.Hot holding unit temperature was increased to 60C (140F) during the course of the inspection.
    • 16. Is the facility free of unapproved animals, vermin and/or insects (unless noted elsewhere), and maintained to prevent the entry or harbourage of pests?
      • A trail of live ants were observed traveling from the strip-mall's grassy area (North-facing), through the edge of the parking lot and to this food facility's front entrance door (where there was a small entry gap), then along the wall of the lobby/waiting area, to the back entrance door (where there was a small mound next to the entrance concrete landing pad).Ants were not observed in the kitchen area.

      • * Walk-in freezer, covers for the fan were damaged. One of the fans was observed exposed.

      • * Recyclables inside of an open holding pail observed with fruit flies.

      • Washroom lacked accessible single use paper towels. The hand dryer located in this washroom did not work.
