    • 31. Are sinks accessible and used appropriately for the personal services provided?
      • Manicure/Pedicure services are not to be provided until an appropriate sink and reprocessing area are in place.Notes:- A sink is available on-site in the basement but requires to be plumbed in.- The operator stated that the plumber is scheduled to return this week to plumb in the sink.Corrective Action:Requirements for Reprocessing Area and Sink1. Must not be in a room with a toilet (i.e. cannot be in a washroom)2. The reprocessing area must:i) Be separate from incompatible activities such as (sleeping, dining, food preparation, routine employee and client traffic, and storage of employee personal items).ii) Have enough work surface area to adequately accommodate the placement of contaminated reusable equipment and cleaned equipment.3. The sink must be connected to a permanent potable water system with hot and cold running water (i.e. not a mobile / portable sink)

      • Operator did not have written procedures for:- The cleansing of skin and mucous membrane (for manicure, pedicure, and waxing),- Client care in the event of an accidental skin cut or puncture,Corrective Action:Provided operator with the AHS written procedures for use.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • PREempt HLD5 is being used to disinfect semi-critical equipment (i.e. manicure/pedicure tools) and test strips are available for use. However, a record log of testing/usage of this high-level disinfectant is not being maintained.Corrective Action:A record log of testing/usage of the high-level disinfectant is required. (Provided AHS template for use).
    • 29. Is the facility properly constructed and maintained to allow for the safe and sanitary provision of personal services (Non-Critical)?
      • The worker chair for manicure service is not smooth, non-porous and easily cleanable as it is fabric/mesh.Corrective Action:Replace this chair with one that is smooth, non-porous and easily cleanable. Some options include a chair that is plastic, metal, or upholstered with leather.

      • The washroom sink was being used to reprocess (clean/disinfect) semi-critical equipment (i.e. manicure/pedicure tools).Corrective Action:Informed operator of requirements for Reprocessing Area and Sink1. Must not be in a room with a toilet (i.e. cannot be in a washroom)2. The reprocessing area must:i) Be separate from incompatible activities such as (sleeping, dining, food preparation, routine employee and client traffic, and storage of employee personal items).ii) Have enough work surface area to adequately accommodate the placement of contaminated reusable equipment and cleaned equipment.3. The sink must be connected to a permanent potable water system with hot and cold running water (i.e. not a mobile / portable sink)Operator noted she will get a dedicated sink installed in another appropriate part of the home (possibly in the basement).
