      • Combine Chlorine 0. 3 mg/LTotal Alkalinity 44 ppmTotal alkalinity is low. Please ensure that the alkalinity is between 60-180 ppm.
    • 07. Are the filtration, circulation and disinfection systems used to maintain water quality working properly (Non-Critical)?
      • Both skimmers near the pool was missing their floating weirs. Please ensure replacement of the floating weirs or installing basket weir. The floating weir is an important part of disinfecting a pool. This part will draw in the top layer of water, where the contamination will commonly collect due to bathers, and will assist in disinfecting the water.

      • Grout at the bottom of pool is beginning to tear and should be replaced soon.

      • 1) In the mechanical room, a section of the pipe for the pool circulation system was observed to be broken and leaking. Staff have attempted to repair the situation by using duct tape and having a funnel attached to a pool noodle, which is leading down to the floor. Signs of rusting and scaling have been observed on the pipe and the wall behind it. Please replace or repair the pipe to stop the leak. The maintenance manager was made aware of this issue and is currently setting up a date for the pipe to get fixed. Follow-up will be required to ensure that the leak is fixed.2) The skimmer pot cover on the south wall needs to be placed. It was noted that the screw was rusted, making the cover difficult to remove. Because of this, noticeable debris has gathered at the bottom of the skimmer. Please ensure a new cover is installed to allow easier removal and to improve access for clearing debris from the skimmer.

      • 1) No printed copy of Alberta's Pool standards was noted to be available. The standards have fecal and blood response plans listed within them, which is important to be accessible to workers if the pool is needing to be disinfected properly. Please ensure that a copy of the standards, an equivalent written policy, or both is provided.2) Surveillance plan was not in place. Please ensure that a written plan is created and includes how often the pool is being checked, when and by which staff member.

      • Total Alkalinity: Initially measured at 37 ppm. The operator added baking soda. The water was retested, resulting in a correct value of 66 ppm of Alkalinity. Within the acceptable range (60-180ppm).

      • The pool skimming basket covers were secured with non-anti-corrosive screws, which had significantly corroded, and seized in place, preventing access to the filters. The operator drilled out the screws, enabling proper access to the filter baskets for cleaning.Please ensure the filter plates protecting the skimming baskets remain accessible to pool operators so the baskets can be properly cleaned regularly as part of the maintenance procedure.If the covers need to be screwed down, use anti-corrosive screws and replace them if they show signs of corrosion to avoid similar issues in the future.During inspection, the skimming baskets were found to be dirty, with a significant amount of trapped lint. The operator addressed this by thoroughly cleaning the baskets

      • The rinsing shower was not operational at the time of inspection.The pool operator turned on the water supply to the rinsing shower during the inspection.Please ensure the water supply remains on and the shower is accessible at all times.

      • The pool permit was found posted inside the mechanical room, which is not visible to pool users.Please ensure the pool permit is relocated to a spot either within the pool area or just outside the entrance, where it is clearly visible to patrons.

      • The operator does not have on-site procedural policies for handling fecal contamination and the associated logbook to document such occurrences.Please implement and maintain the provided documents, on-site to ensure proper procedures are followed and records are kept.

      • One submerged suction outlet in the swimming pool is improperly secured. Specifically, there is a screw missing from one of the submerged suction outlet covers (main drain cover) in the swimming pool. The manufacturer’s install sheet requires four screws to be in place. 1. Ensure the submerged suction outlet cover and frame are assessed for damage by a qualified pool operator and provide evidence of this assessment (e.g. photos) to the satisfaction of an Executive Officer of Alberta Health Services.2. Ensure the submerged suction outlet cover is installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation requirements. Also, ensure that any hardware used is in compliance with the manufacturer’s requirements.3. Ensure that the covers of each submerged suction outlet are inspected prior to opening each day and throughout the day when pool is in use. Ensure records are maintained and available on site.
