Inspection summary
Thé Moon Tea House has been inspected 3 times by Alberta Health Services (Environmental Public Health) since June 11, 2025. The most recent inspection, on July 31, 2026, found no infractions.
2 of 3 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 2 inspections with 5 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Chemicals and toxic substances and Pests.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded once on July 21, 2026. For example:
Does the operator use approved methods for cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, and surfaces?
Chemicals and toxic substancesHigher risk
Cleaning products, sanitizers and pesticides must be labelled and stored away from food and food-contact surfaces. Inspectors flag chemicals that could end up in food, as well as pest treatments applied without proper supervision.
Recorded once on July 21, 2026. For example:
Are chemicals stored and handled in a safe manner?
PestsHigher risk
Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.
Recorded once on July 21, 2026. For example:
Is the facility free of unapproved animals, vermin and/or insects (unless noted elsewhere), and maintained to prevent the entry or harbourage of pests?
Food safety training and certificationLower risk
Most jurisdictions require a certified food handler or manager on site, and some require allergen or food-worker training. These findings mean the paperwork or the trained person was missing at the time. They do not by themselves mean food was handled unsafely.
Recorded 2 times on July 21, 2026. For example:
Do food handlers ensure that food is protected from contamination (unless noted elsewhere)(Non-Critical)?

5 infractions
- 04. Does the operator use approved methods for cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, and surfaces?
- ** Cleaning cloths – used, wet and dirty – were observed in a dry container in kitchen area and not stored in sanitizer solution when not in use. Store wiping cloths in an approved sanitizer solution at the proper concentration when not in use.
- 08. Do food handlers ensure that food is protected from contamination (unless noted elsewhere)(Non-Critical)?
- ** Non-food items were observed stored with food items. Non-food items may contaminate food and food contact surfaces. Store all non-food items, including personal belongings, in a designated area separate from food, utensils and food-contact surfaces. Food items must be stored in a manner that prevents contamination.** Scoops and bowls observed in bulk food containers with dirty handles touching food items, including and not limited to: sugar. Ensure the scoop handles are positioned in a manner that does not contaminate food or stored outside of the food ingredient in a sanitary manner.** Food and/or food equipment was stored on dirty floor and chairs. Storing food or food equipment on the floor/chairs increases the risk of contamination and impedes proper cleaning. Please ensure all food and/or food items are stored off of the floor and stored in a sanitary manner.
- 09. Are chemicals stored and handled in a safe manner?
- ** Sanitizer spray bottle was observed without label in kitchen area. All chemicals and cleaners must be stored in containers that are clearly labeled with contents to prevent the contamination of the food or food area and to prevent the mixing of chemicals. Please clearly label cleaning bottles with their contents.
- 13. Are properly operating hand washing sink(s) accessible to food handlers, located in suitable areas, and stocked with appropriate hand washing supplies?
- ** Observed food handlers using hand sink for rinsing, dumping, cleaning of food utensils. Hand sinks are designated exclusively for handwashing. Using hand sinks for food-related activities can contaminate the sink and discourage proper hand hygiene practices. Use desginated sinks for utensil cleaning and food-related activities. Staff were educated on proper hand sink use during the inspection.
- 16. Is the facility free of unapproved animals, vermin and/or insects (unless noted elsewhere), and maintained to prevent the entry or harbourage of pests?
- *** No pest records were available on-site at the time of inspection. Operator is required to produce pest control records upon request. Consistent pest records help to ensure that a food facility remains free from pests and is not creating harbouring conditions for pests.
- 04. Does the operator use approved methods for cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, and surfaces?
