  4. Initial Inspection

    3 infractions

    • 302 - Critical Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces not properly washed and sanitized [s. 17(2)]
      • Observation: No foodgrade sanitizing agents were found in the food premises. Public health significance: Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces used for food preparation and handling may be contaminated with harmful microorganisms (pathogens). The use of foodgrade sanitizers after washing and rinsing of equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces allows for their disinfection against pathogens that may cause foodborne illnesses.
      • Corrective Action: Approved foodgrade sanitizers, such as sodium hypochlorite (bleach), must be purchased and supplied in food premises. Furthermore, sanitizer solution must be prepared from the supply, measuring at an appropriate concentration to ensure adequate disinfection (e.g., 100-200 ppm for bleach, 200-400 ppm for QUATs, etc.)
    • 309 - Chemicals, cleansers, & similar agents stored or labeled improperly [s. 27]
      • Observation: Spray bottles that were to be used for storing and applying sanitizers were not labelled. Public health significance: Unlabelled or improperly labelled chemical bottles and containers may be mistaken and misused. The misuse of chemicals may lead to accidental chemical contamination of foods, result in inadequate sanitization of food contact surfaces, or pose health and safety risks for staff handling the chemicals.
      • Corrective Action: All bottles and containers holding chemicals must be properly labelled with the chemical agent that is to be stored.
    • 401 - Critical Adequate handwashing stations not available for employees [s. 21(4)]
      • Observation: Handwashing sink was not supplied with handwashing soap and disposable paper towels. Public health significance: Lack of handwashing soap prevents food handlers from effectively cleaning soiled and potentially contaminated hands. Lack of disposable paper towels prevents a sanitary method for drying wet hands after they've been washed. Inadequate hand hygiene may lead to cross-contamination of foods. Ingestion of contaminated food may lead to foodborne illnesses.
      • Corrective Action: Handwashing sink must be supplied with handwashing soap and disposable paper towels in addition to potable running warm/hot water.
