Inspection summary
Huckleberry Mountain Market has been inspected 11 times by Interior Health Authority since February 19, 2013. The most recent inspection, on October 3, 2025, found no infractions.
7 of 11 inspections on record found no infractions at all. No inspections are on record from the past 12 months. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing and Handwashing and staff hygiene.
The last 3 inspections in a row found no infractions. The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded 3 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on March 22, 2023. For example:
3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded once on March 4, 2019. For example:
7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
Equipment and utensilsLower risk
Equipment has to be built from cleanable materials, kept in good repair and stored properly. These findings are mostly about upkeep, like a cracked shelf, a worn gasket or utensils stored the wrong way. They are generally lower risk but show how well the kitchen is maintained.
Recorded once on January 8, 2016. For example:
14 - Are the premises, equipment and utensils designed and maintained to ensure safe and sanitary food handling?
Other findingsLower risk
Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.
Recorded once on March 4, 2019. For example:
1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?

- F2.3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
- Observation(s): Sanitizer in the bakery was very low on chlorine concentration. Please ensure to replace sanitizer (water/bleach) solution regularly as active ingredient loses effectiveness over time to reach sanitization concentrations.

- F2.3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
- Observation(s): Bleach sanitizer in meat department was found to be above 200ppm. Bleach sanitizer must be at 100-200ppm to ensure adequate sanitation and to avoid the risk of chemical contamination of food.

- F2.1A Sanitizer test strips must be available for each chemical sanitizer used at the premises.
- F2.3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
- Observation(s): * Bleach sanitizer in meat department was observed to be above 200 ppm. Bleach sanitizer must be at 100 ppm to ensure adequate sanitation and to avoid the risk of chemical contamination of food. Until test strips are available, use this formula - 1/2 teaspoon of bleach per 1 L of water. * Observed wiping cloths in the meat department sitting on the counters. Wiping cloths that are not stored in sanitizer solution between uses are a breeding ground for bacteria. Cloths used for wiping down counters in the kitchen must be left in a sanitizer solution between uses or only used once with a sanitizer spray before laundering. * Discussed with meat department kitchen staff the need to sanitise meat cutting/processing equipment after it's been cleaned with soap and water.
- F2.7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
- Observation(s): Soap was not available at the meat department. Soap was provided at the time of inspection.

Reviews provided by Google Maps- Wendy Snoow
Google Maps showed this place was open until 8 PM, but it was closed when we arrived. The summer hours don't start until June, and the listing hadn't been updated. Unfortunately, we made the trip for nothing.

The best spot to stop for what you need when in Christina Lake. Local market with lots of food and goods. Staff is very friendly and the prices are not bad for an out-of-the-way spot like this.

I must admit - full disclosure- I am a bit prejudiced - but even so here I go - the selection is massive and the fresh produce is indeed fresh. The prices for some items are a little bit high but well worth it if you consider the transportation logistics and the quality. These people are doing the community a great service. The people working here are locals and extremely friendly and helpful. The food at coffee shop / deli is delicious and very well priced. We lucked out and were there on shepherds pie day and also had the chicken soup. We were just passing through but I was tempted to stick around for another couple of days for the lasagna. It was a real pleasure to drop in and experience real country hospitality and real country cooking. I highly recommend and definitely will be back (hopefully for lasagna day).
