Inspection summary
Huckleberry Mountain Market has been inspected 11 times by Interior Health Authority since February 19, 2013. The most recent inspection, on October 3, 2025, found no infractions.
7 of 11 inspections on record found no infractions at all. No inspections are on record from the past 12 months. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Food temperature control, Cleaning and sanitizing and Protecting food from contamination.
The last 2 inspections in a row found no infractions. The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Food temperature controlHigher risk
Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on March 21, 2017. For example:
4 - Are proper refrigeration, freezing and thawing procedures followed?
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded once on March 4, 2019. For example:
3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk
This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.
Recorded once on March 4, 2019. For example:
5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded once on March 4, 2019. For example:
7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
Permits, records and postingLower risk
Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.
Recorded once on January 8, 2016. For example:
17 - Are written food handling procedures (Food Safety Plan) current and available on site?

- F2.3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
- Observation(s): * Bleach sanitizer in bakery department was observed to be at 200 ppm. Bleach sanitizer must be at 100 ppm to ensure adequate sanitation and to avoid the risk of chemical contamination of food. Until test strips are available, use this formula - 1/2 teaspoon of bleach per 1 L of water.
- F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
- Observation(s): * Observed accumulation of dust in the walk in cooler (in bakery department) near the fan and on ceiling. Operator needs to ensure the build-up dust is removed and components are clean. * Observed torn and taped plastic curtains that cover shelving unit with bread. There is a potential that pieces of cover can contaminate food. Replace the cover with a new one or the one that will not potentially contaminate the food.

Reviews provided by Google Maps- Wendy Snoow
Google Maps showed this place was open until 8 PM, but it was closed when we arrived. The summer hours don't start until June, and the listing hadn't been updated. Unfortunately, we made the trip for nothing.

The best spot to stop for what you need when in Christina Lake. Local market with lots of food and goods. Staff is very friendly and the prices are not bad for an out-of-the-way spot like this.

I must admit - full disclosure- I am a bit prejudiced - but even so here I go - the selection is massive and the fresh produce is indeed fresh. The prices for some items are a little bit high but well worth it if you consider the transportation logistics and the quality. These people are doing the community a great service. The people working here are locals and extremely friendly and helpful. The food at coffee shop / deli is delicious and very well priced. We lucked out and were there on shepherds pie day and also had the chicken soup. We were just passing through but I was tempted to stick around for another couple of days for the lasagna. It was a real pleasure to drop in and experience real country hospitality and real country cooking. I highly recommend and definitely will be back (hopefully for lasagna day).
