- ***Discussed in the older child room that the used (played in) water table that was full and covered should have been emptied as soon as play time was done instead of being left to grow bacteria prior to being emptied. It is best practice to empty the water play table before it is left to grow, the bacteria number would be much less (and it would be safer) to empty once play time was done instead of waiting.

- ***the used wiping cloths were being stored draped over the spray bottles and not stored in a sanitizing solution. Discussed with directors in the office options (use a new cloth each time, store in a sanitizer solution and use single use paper towels.

- ***There was a concern with the hot water temperature not being maintained at a safe level. Hot water temperatures were inconsistent at the various children accessible sinks. The recommended temperature range is from 38 to 43C. There were sinks in room 5 that reached 55C. Ensure that the mixing valves are calibrated and checked to ensure that the hot water temperature is maintained between 38C and 43C.

- ***There was a concern with the lack of hot water. The hand washing sinks in the toddler washroom was 22 to 30C. Hot water temperatures were inconsistent at the various children accessible sinks. The recommended temperature range is from 38 to 43C. Ensure that the mixing valves are calibrated and checked to ensure that the hot water temperature is maintained between 38C and 43C.

- ***There was a concern with the part wall cubbies where there is a narrow wall that barely comes out past the hooks on the wall. This does not provide good separation between the children's belongings. A temporary measure (with good supervision) may be to have all the children hang their coats and belongings on one side of the cubbie with the backpack on the other side of the cubbie to help keep separate the individuals belongings.

- ***The hand sink in the preschool room was obstructed. There were bottles drying in the sink. Please ensure that the sink is accessible at all times.

- ***The foot pedal of the trash can in the younger toddler room was not working. Please ensure that waste is handled in a way that prevents contamination, and that hand washing is performed after opening the trash can lid.

- ***there was a broken storage container with toys present in the younger toddler room. It was turned so the broken part was not exposed to the children and they planned on correcting.

- ***there was a three sided house that was missing a wall. The remaining walls were well braced but there was unfinished surfacing that was exposed where the disrepair was. There was already a new unit ordered and this would be removed once it came in.

- ***There was a broken black spoon present in the yellow sand of the toddler sensory play table. Ensure broken toys and utensil are removed.

- ***there appeared to be a build up on the square magnetic blocks in the preschool room. Discussed with staff present that if the toys were not cleanable they should be replaced, otherwise they needed to be cleaned.

- ***There was one area where the blanket/nap mat storage was not separated and the sheets extended out past the barrier and were touching other children's sheets and blankets. Ensure that the blankets and sheets are adequately separated.

- ***Staff was observed putting nap mats out in the older toddler room. Discussed that while putting them out the mats should not be piled up on top of each other or carried together touching each other. Education was provided with regards to these unacceptable actions.

- 04. Are clients at this facility being protected from hazards (Non-Critical)?
- ** Staple pins were observed on the carpet underneath an art board in room 4 and accessible by the kids. The pins fell off from notices/art displayed on the board. Ensure the staple pins on arts/notices in the rooms are covered with a clear tape so they don't fall off or update your daily safety checklist to include checking the staple pins to ensure they are properly secured and ensuring no loose pin is on the carpets/rugs.

- ** Oxivir spray bottles (Hydrogen Peroxide based disinfectant) in rooms 1 & 3 had a low concentration. New bottles were prepared during inspection. Bottles in other rooms were at the required concentration. Discussed with the directors to ensure the staff measure and verify the concentration of each bottle when prepared.

- ** Some play equipment were stored in the washroom close to rooms 1-4. The staff removed the equipment during inspection. Ensure toys and play equipment are not stored in the washroom.
