    • 16. Is the facility free of unapproved animals, vermin and/or insects (unless noted elsewhere), and maintained to prevent the entry or harbourage of pests?
      • While the facility had the Alberta Health Services pest control checklist available and filled out, there were no pest monitoring devices present at the facility observed. If the operator would like to handle pest control themselves, please install pest monitoring devices, such as glue traps and glue boards to monitor for cockroaches and mice. Alternatively, a professional third-party pest control company can be hired and asked to monitor the facility on a monthly basis for pest activity, coming in more frequently (e.g., weekly) if pest activity is observed. Please also ensure to document and provide continuous records of any pest activity observed, or whether pests are absent each month.
    • 21. Is the facility properly constructed and maintained in a state of good repair to allow for the safe and sanitary handling of food?
      • The lights in the walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer did not have shatterproof light covers installed. This is important so that if the light-bulb shatters, it does not contaminate food with glass fragments.Please install proper shatterproof covers for these light bulbs.

      • Plastic wrapping was found present on the small mobile shelf that the meat slicer is kept on, as well as on the shelf/surface under the sandwich preparation cooler that was peeling and did not appear easily cleanable.Please remove and discard material that is not easy to clean, and ensure that all surfaces are smooth, impervious to moisture, durable, and therefore easy to clean.
