    • 03. Are clients at this facility being protected from hazards (Critical)?
      • Pre-school room:-In the hallway washroom closest to the main entrance of the daycare, there was a chemical dispenser with chemical bottles mounted around knee height on the wall and above the toilet as well. It was indicated this dispenser was not being used and was left over from a previous business. Some of the chemicals were still present in the bottles. Remove the chemical bottles and hoses to prevent these chemical hazards from being potentially accessed by children.

      • Pre-school room:-In hallway washroom closest to the main entrance of the daycare, there was a step stool being used that was narrow and made of thin plastic.Remove this stool and replace it with a step stool that is sturdy, stable, durable and easily cleanable.Infant room:-Push pins were used on the bulletin boards.Remove all pins, as these may pose a poke hazard.Kitchen:-Children from the Pre-school room were observed to be going into the kitchen when they were told to wash their hands. Children are not to be allowed into the kitchen to prevent injury.

      • Current observations:-The cubbies in all rooms were not anchored.Anchor cubbies and shelves so that they are secure to prevent tipping over and causing crush injuries. Previous observations:Babby room:Cubbies are not secured to the wall. Ensure cubbies are secured to the wall.
    • 18. Is the facility and equipment being maintained in a suitable manner (Non-Critical)?
      • Preschool room:-The wooden chairs all had chipped paint. Refinish or replace the chairs, as they must have a smooth, easily cleanable surface.-The soft vinyl blue and red children's chairs had worn covers. Place smooth, waterproof and easily cleanable covers on these chairs or have them replaced.-The sleeping mats stored in the kitchen/staff room were ripped and torn.Have all mats that are ripped and torn replaced as they cannot be properly cleaned.Toddler room:-Foam tiles were dirty. Have these cleaned to remove dirt and stains or have them replaced with new tiles. -There was a build up of dirt and hair on the floor in the corners and along the edges of the shelves. These areas must be thoroughly cleaned.OSC room:-There was a fabric shoe cubby that was stained and dirty. It was indicated this would be discarded.-Develop a cleaning checklist and schedule to ensure staff know what and when to clean all areas of the facility.

      • Infant room:-The children napping in the infant room were less than 2 feet apart. If you are unable to keep children at least 2 feet apart, arrange them head to toe, to prevent children coughing in each other’s faces while sleeping.Children in this room were rearranged head to toe.

      • Current observations:-There is still a gap along the side of the back exit door leading to the outdoor playground in the OSC room. Install weather stripping to seal this gap so that no visible light can be seen shining through to prevent entry of pests. Previous observations:OSC RoomThe weather stripping on the back exit door leading to the outdoor playground is in poor condition, allowing visible light to pass through a gap. Repair or replace the weather stripping to prevent pest entry into the facility. When properly installed, no light from outside should be visible inside the daycare

      • Current observations:-The ventilation fan in the OSC washroom closer to the Previous observations:OSC Room:The ventilation fan in the boys' washroom is not in proper working order.Repair or fix the washroom fan.
    • 32. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this child care facility (Non-Critical)?
      • Preschool room:-There was a used cloth being re-used to wipe surfaces next to the bleach spray bottle on the large storage shelf next to the kitchen entrance. This cloth was removed. Do no re-use cloths when wiping down surfaces, as germs will grow quickly on the cloths and these will spread onto surfaces as it is used. Only use single use paper towels or if using cloth towels, use them once and place in a dirty hamper immediately.Several children's water bottles were not labeled with their names. -Ensure labels are on the water bottles to prevent using the wrong ones.Toddler room:-Diaper change procedures not posted by the change table.Post diaper change procedures by the change table to help remind staff of proper procedures. -Second washroom in the toddler room was not being used. The water was turned off and no safety belt was available for the change pad.If you use this washroom again, the water must be turned on and a pad with a safety belt must be used.-Food bibs were being stored in the second washroom. Do not store food related items in the washroom, as they may become contaminated. The bibs were taken out of the washroom.-Water temperature logs were not available. Check water temperatures at all sinks accessible to children regularly to ensure the temperature is below 49 degrees C to prevent scalding. Record the temperatures in a log to ensure staff are doing this.

      • OSC RoomHand washing sinks in the boys' and girls' washrooms did not have soap and hand paper towel.The handwashing supplies were replenished during inspection.

      • The thermometer in the larger, silver mini fridge in the toddler room is broken. It was observed displaying a reading of 20C, while the actual temperature of the fridge was 4C. Please replace this thermometer.

      • Orange and green footstool/bench in the OSC room is in disrepair. Operator states a cleanable cover has been purchased for it and will be installed soon.

      • The green bleach disinfectant bottle in the toddler room was measured at 0 ppm chlorine and appeared to be filled with soapy water. Upon request, this bottle was removed and replaced.Please ensure disinfectant bottles are always maintained at 100 ppm chlorine.

      • Washroom fan - previous fan had been removed. Program indicated a new fan with cover will be installed. Oct 24, 2024: The washroom fan still requires a cover.
